Duthie trails closed until storm clean-up complete

Duthie is a mess! Several inches of snow still. Blowdowns, branches and debris
everywhere. It can't be any fun to ride right now and it's extremely bad for the
trails to ride them now. Riding will grind that fallen debris into the snow,
slush and mud and the trails will go from bad to worse real fast. It will also
plug drains with debris causing even more of a mess to back up onto the trails.

So Duthie will be closed thru the weekend?
I've done a ton of trail clean locally and now I'm just looking to ride Sunday.

Here's why Duthie is still closed

3 people spent 1 entire day bucking blowdowns... result: 3 trails cleared. No brushing, raking or drains cleared... just got the blowdowns bucked. Just a few examples...

Before... three 60-80 ft tall trees (2 alders and a doug fir) fell over the wooden berm / wall ride at the end of Ryan's Line and all three landed in the crotch of a tree... sparing the structure!

It was a long process of cuts to minimize the weight that would finally fall on the structure. A stack of logs, lumber and debris was also stacked up to take the hit.

    After... unscathed!

    Here's another spot...

Before... not 1" of visible wall ride...

    After...

1 other stack of blowdowns on Ryan's with killer binds (no photos).

Going to take lots of work, but we should get it wrapped up with a good crew of volunteers on Sat & Sun. Hopefully open back open on Monday.

It has been *TREMENDOUSLY* valuable keeping the traffic off the slush, mud and debris. Thanks everybody for respecting the closure! That will cut the clean-up effort in half... or more!

    Cheers,
    Mike

    Job 1/2 finished

Mike posted an update on the Duthie Hill facebook.

The snags have been bucked and cleared to the sides of the trails. But the hardest part of the job is left; clearing all the organic material currently on the trail tread and unplugging the drains.

Please come out and help ...

Cleaned up and ready to go....
There's a big difference between ripping and skidding. Those who skid don't know how to ride.

Rode Duthie last week and it was great. You could hardly tell in most spots that there was any problem at all. Thanks to everyone for their hard work. I hope to start helping when the kids are a little older.
