I am thinking about heading out to this trail system tomorrow for some riding. I checked out Evergreen Trail Wiki, but was wondering if anyone had any additional info that they might be able to share about the area, trail difficulty/conditions, updated map availability, etc, etc....
I had a wicked time out there! Just alot of fast down then steep up. Great views of the sound and somewhere out there are even some fun jumps. If the weather is good be careful, especially near the bluffs as a lot of people walk out there and sometimes visibility isn't great. It can be confusing sometimes but your on an island, can't go too lost. lol
Rode there last Fall in the rain and it was as exactly as the previous poster described...a lot of fun down then steep ups. There are lots of trails and we got a map from the ranger station right at the park there (where you pay for your campsite). It was pretty thorough, otherwise it might be easy to get lost. I didn't really like the riding there because I like to go up, up, up, then down. This was more like, go down for 30 seconds, climb for a minute...repeat. We were both on hardtails and although it was raining we didn't get too wet or muddy.
I'm leading a ride through Evergreen there this Saturday. Maps are up to date, trails are usually really good in winter and free of many hikers and I rarely see any other bikers there.
You can get plenty of miles and a couple thousand feet of vert in if you don't mind repeating some trails. We lost access to the Bluffs Trail and Kyle's Kettles which is unfortunate, but I almost always sneak a bit of Bluff in between the group campground and the turn for Hokey-ka-dodo as there is never anyone over there. And going down Hokey (east away from the water) is one of the best trails there.
Trails were in great shape. A little slick on the surface in places, but for January? Wow. Great day under blue skies. Didn't even suffer the carwash-effect over near Roy Evans and Madrona Hill.
Probably one of the best mid-winter riding days I've had in a long time.
