Ancient Lake ride: Monday dec 26

A couple of others and I are riding Acient Lake Monday morning. Departing 9:22am from the trailhead. I will be riding my new fat bike and stopping to take lots of video and action pics.

Search this forum for the trailhead directions.

I am out of town until later in the day, otherwise I'd be there. I need to ride. Have a good one.

Thanks for the RR. I am going to try and finally make it out there in 2012. Question from a Westsider: is there a low season for goatheads, or is it pretty much a year-round thing?

Haven't yet seen any goatheads out there. Maybe up above by the orchards & such... please don't track 'em in!!

Never had a flat there and I ride all over. Heck, yet to have a goathead puncture while mtbing anywhere in central Washington.

You do not want to be at Ancient Lake in the summer (extreme heat/soft soil) or in the active wet (VERY sticky mud, though it drys out quickly).

Check the similar threads links at the bottom of this page.

Thanks Boostin! I'm going to miss Thursday's ride out there, headed for White Pass. As far as I know, Shiggy and a few other folks are still planning to go. Have you ridden there yet?

Not sure what they're plan is but they'll probably ride from the "lower" trail head... the one where you take road #9 down towards the river, then head back south on the gravel road to the parking area. Weather could change they're plan. I'll be riding WP's nordic trails after 3:30pm Thurs. through Sun. (also weather and snow pack permitting). Call me if your headed my way!

Ancient Lakes, no, but I've picked up quite a few riding along lower Crab Creek and I hear there's lots of 'em around the Tri Cities.

Sorry I missed the ride though, the weather looked great.

Weather is looking good at the moment for Thursday. But if it rains again it may be unrideable.

Yeah, dirt has probably turned to goo by now. If it was supposed to get down to the 20s it might freeze hard enough to ride, but warmer than that it will probably be frozen-crust-over-goo.

If this wind continues and the rain holds off it should be dry enough tomorrow or Saturday. I will likely check it out knowing I may need to just turn around. Only a 35 minute drive for me.

Gpsser just posted pics on FB from riding I suspect down towards Vantage today, complete with peanut butter mud they had to dig out of the stays and the fork so the wheels would keep turning. This crazy rain isn't going to help either.

Yup, the weather is taunting me. Nice during the day. Hard rains overnight. Doubt I will get to AL again on this trip.

I actually rode ancient lakes Thursday in the AM. It was pretty decent. The rain started around 3 in the afternoon, I had already started to pack it up by then. Pretty fun ride, was the first visit there. The trail that drops to the river is pretty gnar for a bike! Enjoyed it!

Otherwise a great breakup opposed to the reg. west side slop runs!
