    Where to ride???

Hey all, I am new to mountain biking and out of shape. I love riding and can't wait to get into it a lot more once I find a good place to ride. I am looking for a fairly flat trail to ride. I live in Mt. Airy, MD. I am ok going out to the Columbia and/or the Frederick area. Getting a rack for my car this week!

Check out Scheaffer Farms in Germantown. It's a beginner friendly place to ride.

Schaeffer Farm in germantown. The Frederick watershed (have someone guide you), Seneca Creek state park, Seneca Greenway trail (I think you can catch it off 27), Patapsco (bit of a drive)... Tons of places. It's awesome. Have fun!

You should stay out of the watershed if you are a beginner. The trails there can be very rocky.

Oh and if you don't have a rack in time, I've got room.

Agreed! Best to do the easier trails as mentioned, then maybe explore Gambrill Yellow, (clockwise, starting at the Frederick Overlook), before venturing out in the Shed. There are some easier trails there, but even those turn nasty at times. That's why it's such a great place!

I agree...that's why I said have someone guide you. But you're right, it can get a little hairy for beginners (and beyond!)
