    Slatyfork Shuffle 2014

It's been a number of years since I could make the pilgrimage from FL to WV but I want to make a "real" bike trip this year. I know its earlier to speak of these things, but I'll be watching for details to drop. Ive read posts about it "shuffling" to other trail systems, thats cool I'll figure it out and aim to make it.

How many of the originals still hang around? Davis, Chili, Whitt, Hecklerboy, Rick, numerous others I can't think of at the moment.

Just keep me in the loop, I'll try to figure out a way.

Well not sure how many of the other originals will be in for a shuffle, however the word is out. I'll push it some. Davis is now up in PA, Chilli is around Frostburg, geeze Whitt has a couple kids now and not for sure where he is living, although I still have contact with them all as well as Hecklerboy. I'll start some feelers out. We were trying to decide when to have it and the last note I threw out we were looking sometime in July.

Would be great to have it in Slatyfork again.

Sign me up. Funny. I look at this site for the first time in months and see this at the top of the page....

Try to drag Rick up with you. I'll start working on chili. Will need to pry HB and CaptPhun off of their motorcycles. Whitt's back east around DC somewhere after they threw him out of Montana.

i spoke to Rick today and planted the notion of a Slatyfork Shuffle trip. He sounded excited and hopefully could make it. With this early planning its hard not to make it. no matter how we've all had to grow up and become responsible, irresponsibility just takes planning now!

Just reliving some of the past 10 years of Shuffling in Slaty. Googled "Slatyfork Shuffle" and hit the image tab. Oddly, saw more pics of people riding rather than just drinking. Although, I did see one pic of some moron drinking a can of Iron City at the overlook along Cow Pasture Trail. Good times. Keeping fingers crossed for 2014.

Well, since I only live 20 miles from Tea Creek campground now I have no excuse. Hopefully my knee will hold up. Haven't been on the bike since I pulled a ligament in my knee last year.
I'll be getting the MTB out soon and giving it a try.

One of my local watering holes had Iron City as a "premium, limited time offering" a couple of weeks ago. They were $4 a can. I told the owner that I probably paid for the case with the 3 I bought. At least he had no idea it was the cheap, local beer of Pittsburgh. I didn't mind as it was reminiscent of great times.

    Lets do this thing!

    This just in….

Long time regular and all around fun guy CHILI is returning for this year's shuffle! He promises to be the fat and slow version that we've all come to know and love, not the latter skinny and fast version who was such a d!ck.

(He's gonna kill me if he reads this.)

So let's set a date. I know everyone needs some notice for vacation days and such. Can the weekend of July 25th work? I would likely arrive Thursday afternoon. I'll call Rick and muscle him into this. What's everyone else think?

How's the date looking for everyone?

As in the past, I will bring a refreshed for 2014 official Slatyfork Shuffle decal. As you know these are incredibly rare and highly sought after due to the very limit production of the artist. I would like to get an idea of who is trying to make it so I can provide one for each of us.

I look forward to seeing everyone and hopefully a few new folks as well.

Happy Trails to you until then,

Ok, so that is the first time I've attached pics sorry for the double images. Would anyone planning to attend be interested in Koozies? I'll pay for stickers as I have in the past just to commemorate the event. Koozies cost about $6 each with a small break at 10 and 20. If you like the kookie idea and want one let me know. Ill order them and settle up at the Shuffle. So who's in?

Lost my 2003 Shuffle decal when I traded in the XTerra. Still have the second one you brought, still on the vinyl. Koozie? DAMN STRAIGHT! Sign me up for 2 of them summ*****es. Already have some of the Appalachian Powerdrink stocked away, and should be able to get much more upon returning to Pokie. And I'm bringing some tequila and cachaca, too. Wish I had a propane powered ice maker.

I'll have ice, do you worry. I just got a new "Grizzly" cooler. Its one of those 14 day kinda super insulated things, its pretty bad@$$.

I haven't heard back about conflicts, so thats that! Its unofficially set for July 25th-27th.

I still plan to arrive on the 24th but will have to book out early on Sunday. Ill be getting my shuffle on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Taco night works, especially if someone coming still makes a hobby of making hot sauces. Thats a SS1 reference for Chili.

I think everyone should bring a local beer to share samples. Lets bring a little culture to this thing.

I just spoke to Rick and made an offer he just can't refuse...I ordered decals and Koozies last night, they arrive July 3rd. I'm assuming everyone is still up for this and had plenty of notice for vacation requests. We're a month out from this thing! Dust off your bike, lube the chain, suck back some cold ones and plan on a little fun before we all get too old and responsibility takes over our lives.

Stickers and koozies arrived a couple of days ago. i repair tent poles this morning, went ahead and put the roof rack on the car, just general odds and ends I didn't want to wait until the last minute to sort thru.

Thursday for me. Still working on chili who is on the fence. Flyin' Brian is coming. ODN will be there provided theres not some BS emergency back in his neck of the woods. Scottie-Boo, will you be gracing us with your presence? Capt. Phun? CCR will be coming over the line, hoping he's bringing some VA produced Appalachian PowerAde so we can have a real fun taste testing between PA/WV/VA. HB said his knees are blown out from his Ka-Rah-Tay, but said he'd visit (no moonshine for HB, PLEASE). It would be great if LowCel would drag his sorry ass up to Tea Creek, and bring some of that to die for Piccalilly along with him. Ash is probably gone for good, apparently moving back to Utah and being a re-dedicated family man. Such is life.

So, this is probably a good time to announce to any and all thread lurkers that the shuffle has always proudly been an open to all event. We have had many diehard regulars from 2003, many now and then types, and many newcomers who have become regulars and actually carried the torch since I moved from Pocahontas County in 2009. Its strange not to have at least one inquiry from a stranger asking about what this all about. Bring your bike, leave your attitude at home, and bring anything else that makes you happy. We've had professional ganja growers and state troopers (on the same years) and every one always gets along. Males, females, some were still not sure of. If you love getting WAY out there, you love biking, and you love having a REAL GOOD TIME, or at least laughing your a$$ off at those who are, you should consider adding this year's Slatyfork Shuffle to your itinerary. Just search "Slatyfork Shuffle" on mtbr and you'll see the history of the event that has been creating epic rides, massive hangovers, and lifelong friendships since 2003. You won't regret it, I assure you.

For the people on the fence because of riding shape, "forget bout-it". I have tendonitis in both shoulders and can only ride 1 to 1 1/2 hours, so there will be short ride options. Come on out and enjoy the weekend!

All packed! The only thing left is a beer run to the my favorite local brewery in the next day or so. Seems silly to pack up on Sunday, but my two day work week is full.

I look forward to seeing everyone that finds their way to Tea Creek Thursday afternoon.

Davis, do you think you could procure a qt of WV mountain spring water "to go"? I'd like to take some home for another upcoming occasion. If so, let me know what I owe you when we get to Tea Creek. If not, no worries. I'm hoping you "know" people.

I'm done lurking, count me in. I'll be arriving Friday afternoon around 12 - 1 PM likely . I would like to get a ride in on Friday after I get my tent set up and before serious drinking commences if anybody is up for it. I'm bringing some homebrews as well as other local brews.

The one and only shuttle I went to was up in Davis in 2012. I look forward to meeting everyone. Would the camp spot/s you are trying to get be the 2 large sites tword the end of the road along Tea Creek near the turnaround circle (that road is straight ahead as you pull into the campground) OR is it along the Williams River which would be tword the left as you enter the campground. I hope to arrive Friday around 12 - 1:00 PM. Any hints as to how to find you guys? Thanks!

Got a 6.5 lb pork shoulder marinating in achiote since last night, I'll cook it overnight and shred it before leaving. Red onions are pickling as we speak. Picked up a case of Arn City Beer. Found 2growlers for refill @ MSBC. Made some bread and butter pickles and some chimichurri sauce to go with some andouille sausages. Hoping Scotty-Boo found a copilot and can make the trip from MASS.
