Finally getting back into riding after too many years off. In really bad shape but loving every minute of it. Riding down here is nothing like my days of riding in NOVA. I guess this is why it's called "mountain biking" and not just "biking on dirt".

Welcome aboard. I'm in Milton. I am a noob, and I have been so busy this summer that I haven't had time to ride. If you ever see a guy on a black Specialized Rock Hopper that looks lost, that is me.

    Welcome oldnoob,
If you ride the area around Camp70 much you'll see or have seen my son and I. We ride
there very often. We plan on getting a few from the forums here together for a weekend
camp / ride pretty soon. Watch the board here for a post on it. Anyone would be more
    than welcome.

I'm sure you know of HooDoo Rocks and Moonrocks in that area. If you are working to
improve your skills that's a good place to start. Also, Plantation, Davis Trail, Lindy and
or Park to Park (Allegheny Trail) is just plain awesome.

Hope to see you over there sometime soon.

My son rides an '07 F5 Cannondale and I'll either be on a Giant AC (Green) or a red
    Specialized Hardrock Sport Disk.

First off, welcome. Secondly, love that avatar.

Have you ridden any of that "new" stuff that was recently cut near the back of Timberline? I'll get the lowdown this weekend on exactly where these are as I have some friends coming down from CV Saturday. How about Horseshoe, ridden there yet? Horseshoe is awesome, a nice change-up from the "normal" Canaan-style trails. More like Douthat or Rimel.

Hmm.. I know that Timberline has announced they are beefing up their mtn biking trails this year but didnt know of new trails behind it. It borders dolly sods and wildlife refuge, so that would be interesting. Is horseshoe trail in pocahontas county? being kind of a noob myself, Ill bet you and others have forgotten about more trails than I know about

Btw I was planning to ride in the north sods and also roaring plains this weekend as time is closing in fast before they are closed to bikes.... the wilderness bill passed through congress in a landslide on tuesday.

Actually, I meant the Timberline development that's just beyond the turn to the ski area. Enter past the gates then stay left on the road to cross the "conservancy". Make the first right and stay straight until the road comes to a "T". Go right and follow until you come to a parking area. Its the start of an approximate 8 mile loop, with about 1 mile being tech single, the rest is just beautiful views of Cabin Mt on the right and another (I forget the name) on the left.

Horseshoe is an area in Tucker County. Take #219 north from Thomas and pass Fairfax Stone. Watch for a left that descends to Horseshoe camping area. Two great loops leave from there. Steep, fast and swoopy. Big fun.

hey dave, sadly i haven't been out on any real trout slaying sessions yet this year. (well besides a few quick pulloffs on 32 at the bwr) fishing during the stocking season is cheating in my opinion anyway.
