Finally getting back into riding after too many years off. In really bad shape but loving every minute of it. Riding down here is nothing like my days of riding in NOVA. I guess this is why it's called "mountain biking" and not just "biking on dirt".

Welcome aboard. I'm in Milton. I am a noob, and I have been so busy this summer that I haven't had time to ride. If you ever see a guy on a black Specialized Rock Hopper that looks lost, that is me.

    Welcome oldnoob,
If you ride the area around Camp70 much you'll see or have seen my son and I. We ride
there very often. We plan on getting a few from the forums here together for a weekend
camp / ride pretty soon. Watch the board here for a post on it. Anyone would be more
    than welcome.

I'm sure you know of HooDoo Rocks and Moonrocks in that area. If you are working to
improve your skills that's a good place to start. Also, Plantation, Davis Trail, Lindy and
or Park to Park (Allegheny Trail) is just plain awesome.

Hope to see you over there sometime soon.

My son rides an '07 F5 Cannondale and I'll either be on a Giant AC (Green) or a red
    Specialized Hardrock Sport Disk.

First off, welcome. Secondly, love that avatar.

Have you ridden any of that "new" stuff that was recently cut near the back of Timberline? I'll get the lowdown this weekend on exactly where these are as I have some friends coming down from CV Saturday. How about Horseshoe, ridden there yet? Horseshoe is awesome, a nice change-up from the "normal" Canaan-style trails. More like Douthat or Rimel.

Hmm.. I know that Timberline has announced they are beefing up their mtn biking trails this year but didnt know of new trails behind it. It borders dolly sods and wildlife refuge, so that would be interesting. Is horseshoe trail in pocahontas county? being kind of a noob myself, Ill bet you and others have forgotten about more trails than I know about

Btw I was planning to ride in the north sods and also roaring plains this weekend as time is closing in fast before they are closed to bikes.... the wilderness bill passed through congress in a landslide on tuesday.

Actually, I meant the Timberline development that's just beyond the turn to the ski area. Enter past the gates then stay left on the road to cross the "conservancy". Make the first right and stay straight until the road comes to a "T". Go right and follow until you come to a parking area. Its the start of an approximate 8 mile loop, with about 1 mile being tech single, the rest is just beautiful views of Cabin Mt on the right and another (I forget the name) on the left.

Horseshoe is an area in Tucker County. Take #219 north from Thomas and pass Fairfax Stone. Watch for a left that descends to Horseshoe camping area. Two great loops leave from there. Steep, fast and swoopy. Big fun.

hey dave, sadly i haven't been out on any real trout slaying sessions yet this year. (well besides a few quick pulloffs on 32 at the bwr) fishing during the stocking season is cheating in my opinion anyway.

    Hi

    Name: Ed
    Live: Radford, VA
Usually riding: 05 Fuji Panic. Its a bit inferior to the other bikes here But it gets the job done.
Trails most likely to see me: Random parking lots working on trackstands/manuals/bunnyhops/bleeding. Riding intervals on the hills around Radford Campus. Once i get some endurance/bike control I will probably wander out to most of the trails in this area. Carvins, Pandapas... and is Dragons tooth feasible to ride? Looked at pics...It looks like a blast, but I would want a parachute.
Other people from this board I ride with regularly (> 2X/month): No one yet.

Trails to most likely to pass me on: Valley Falls, Coopers Rock and Fort Hill.
People from this board I ride with: no one that I know of, just found the site
Pic: not very good but I don't have too many of me on the bike. Since the pic (which is about 10 years old and was taken during a race at coopers) I've added SPD's and replaced the tries with Specialized Team master/control.

Im working my way into better shape. I've tried riding with a few local riders and tend to just slow them down so Im usually off solo trying to improve my speed and technical skills. I figure 4-5 riding days a week and by the fall I'll be able to keep up.

    Home. Milton Wv,.. mostly
Moneypits. Cannondale prophet, (sniff-sniff) GT rebound sold now.
Trails. Home farm trails, Greenbrier trail,
Level. Well a while back I may have been an intermediate. Now (fatter and no practice) I feel like I just took the training wheels off.

Did I mention fat? I just did a little ride and I think I heard one of the tires cry out "what did I do to you?"
They probably weren't meant for 320 lbs.
I keep riding and it wont be that way for long.

Bike: Felt hardtail. I have some upgrades waiting to go on.
Trails to most likely to find me on: Avalon
People from this board I ride with: I don't know anyone from the board.
    Pic: None, posting from phone.

Brand new here and to mountain biking as a whole. I try to ride around Avalon pretty much every day after work. My cardio is terrible mainly because I just quit smoking a few months back. Eventually when I have some better enduance and can last longer I'd love to find some people to ride with and gain knowledge/technique through.
