I rode BMX growing up and learned my way around a bike hanging out @ the LBS anytime i wasn't in school. I did some occasional BMX regional racing, but spent most of of the time riding dirt/jump tracks and vert ramps. I picked up my first HT (Diamondback Assent EX, still have the frame set up as a single-speed) in 89-90 and rode HT rigs up until 2013 when I bought my Yeti.
I prefer fast and flowy to grinding out climbs, but like variety. I definitely have an appreciation for technical sections and features, like the stuff in the newly re-designed Black Loop @ FH - challenging, but very fun!
I'm usually solo, so if any of y'all see me on the trail, please say hi!

[B] Ride with:[B] I ride alone down here cause i haven't met anyone yet other then guys I work with.
My Story: I just moved down here less then a year ago to take a FF job with the county. My wife lives in NY for at least another year in nursing school. Started Mtn biking in NY years ago, but was never really up and current on the technology and lingo. Did a lot of trail riding there and looking for the same stuff here. I work 9 days a month so I'm always down to go riding. Hit me up.
Current rig: 1998, yes, 1998 Stumpjumper Comp, which is an upgrade from my old Bridgestone MB-3
Trails Likely to See Me: Fountainhead G-Blu Loop
My Story: Been in the area for 15 years and just got back into mtb'ing after a 20 year haitus. Used to ride the fast fire trails of East Bay of Northern California. Still learning about 29ers, tubless tires, and all the new stuff. Can't get used to the fact that my '98 SJ is a "vintage" bike. Lol!
New guy arriving soon
Moving to the DC/NOVA area in a few weeks.
Looking forward to meeting up with some new folks and exploring new trails.

Rode a lot during my college years. Rode one of the early Diamondback MTBs that I got for my birthday in 1985. The bike still runs, but my younger brother took it from me when he moved to Dallas, Texas. I still want the bike back.
Got back into riding this spring when I taught two of my four boys to ride. The 9 year old learned to ride in the Spring and now races around the neighborhood on his GT Aggressor 24. The oldest, 14, also got the riding bug when he got a GT Backwoods Comp MTB for his birthday. My 6 year old is learning to ride on a TRU BMX bike. (I will get him a 20" mountain bike when he gets tall enough.). I got myself the GT Sensor Comp to ride with them.

Anyone planning to head to a trail this weekend? I work nights this week, so I'd have to be done around 3-4pm. Not an advanced rider, so I'm not sure if I'm good enough for patapsco yet.
Thoughts on where I should go?
Ride Patapsco, that's how you'll get better. Not all of it is that technical. You can park in Rockburn and start with that part as it's easy.

Been riding since '96 but not too much over the last few years. I met a guy in May of this year who rode and decided it was time to get back into shape. Since then I have lost 30 lbs. and re-kindled my love of MTB and all that goes along with it!
pics of my bike, just got it last week (shout out to Andre and Bike Works, Fredericksburg!!):
where in NOVA/DC are you moving to?

Re-upping from my post above. Recently moved to the Winchester area, and having a heck of a time sorting and figuring out where to ride that is under 45min-hr away from my new home. I guess I'm spoiled by previously having KSF and Fayetville, in my back yard. I found sherando park, but looking for good flowy single track or techy stuff in my area. If anyone can direct me to more nearby options, or is in my area hit me up; I will provide a beer for guidance of course.
looks like you're only about 2 hours from Allegrippis - though obviously not close enough for regular rides, if you've never been I'd hit that in early spring for sure. It's a bit of an epic spot guaranteed
Moving near Arlington County this week. Might not have my bike for a few weeks, but would love suggestions on where to ride. I am moving from Chattanooga, TN.
Welcome to Virginia.
I'm also from Chattanooga. I built the single track out at the Henson Gap Hang Gliding Site. You are going to miss Raccoon Mt and the single track on Lookout.
I'd start with finding Fountainhead Park off 123 South of Fairfax. Sweet riding there.
As you get settled in head West to Elisabeth Furnace near Front Royal. Shenandoah is a few hours out. And Weekends in Harrisonburg are well worth it. The 81 corridor is Great. Ya got to hit Blacksburg and the Cove in Roanoke. The riding in Fredericksburg is worth checking out because of the great group of guys there.
Evening traffic is a bear everywhere up there. So, after work rides are tricky unless you are on greenways. Bikes on the bike trail can go faster than cars on the George Washington Parkway.
