Roanoke area riders: come ride some new(old) singletrack!
Roanoke area riders: Want to ride some newly re-opened singletrack?
CraigCreekRider and I are hosting a Roanoke IMBA ride on Price Mountain trail this Sunday (11/4). Anyone is welcome to join us. The trail is about 6.6 miles long, with about 2,000 - 2,500 ft climbing, but it is really steep. We can either do a point-to point, or finish the loop with about 6.5 miles of very nice FS roads and a mile or two of pavement. We could also hi the section of Helms Trail featured in another thread on this board. PM me or go to the Roanoke IMBA Facebook page and leave a comment in the thread about this if you would like to join.
This is part of the Price / Patterson Mt Trail system that RIMBA members have been working on for the past season. The following is a link to some info on the project and a maps of the trails:

You've ridden there?

The first 2 pics of my last post are gsomtb. He's paid suffer-age there a couple of times.
Maybe he can join us and get the ride out the other end - the kinder gentler Price Mountain.

Time and Place
Time and place: 10:00 AM at the top of the pass on Rt 606 / Grove Hill Rd (by the trailhead for Price Mt Trail).

Looks like we are doing this as a point to point. Please let us know by the night before if you are coming so we can make plans for dropping a vehicle or two off at the other end.

He's wanting to get up there and ride so maybe in a weekend or 2.
What is the other end that you're speaking of?

Sounds good. New place for WB to HAB Sunday only in November, that place has more armed men than Dodge City in black powder and rifle season.

Between Kelly Trail and Patterson Creek road. Its where we have been working the last 6 months or so. Rolling ridge ride followed by 2+ mile descent. Smooth mostly, almost Douthat-ey. The short loop post I did above has some pics from that end. Pics 6-21 on 10-27-2012 ride.

Bump. Kapusta had something come up and can't make it, but I still plan on doing the ride. 10 AM at the top of the pass locally known as Caldwell Mountain. From US 220 in Fincastle turn onto Rt 606 beside the Dollar Store and go 7 miles west following "Camp on Craig" signs. Meeting spot is at the top of the pass on the right.

Reason: Correct miles from Rt 220

It was just a few of us, but the ride went well. Foggy and in the clouds but no rain. Rocks and leaves were slick. I'll try and put some pics up later on here.

Sunday's Price Mountain Ride Report
Sundays weather forecast was not so great. Cold rain through Saturday night followed by clouds and mid 40’s. So there were only 3 of us, and Sioux, trail dog extraordinaire. We did a shuttle, but still had a mile of very steep hike-a-bike right off the start. Some of my pictures came out kinda fuzzy, sorry about that.

¾ of the way off, the outer clothes were coming off.

A little break, and then it was on again

Some fun on top

Lots of the ride was in the clouds

It was fairly slippery, rocky, and full of new leaves

A few obstacles along the way

Token old guy

Synchronized off camber pedaling, it is quite popular in this part of the state

On north of Kelly Trail, the mountain gets tamer

By this point we were coming down and out of the clouds

A fun downhill, then we rode some stuff on the lower part of Patterson Mountain
Some doubletrack

Another mile or so of Helms trail singletrack

It was a hard, but fun ride.
