Riding in vicinity of Deep Creek Lake

    Hi folks,

Going to Deep Creek Lake (DCL) at the beginning of August. Looking for good mountain biking within an hour or so (even 2 hours for something great). Not looking in PA b/c I know that stuff and I've done most of it. Interested in everything from rippable (like Raystown) to rocky (like Rothrock) to all-mountain-y/resorty type stuff. Probably not going to do anything that would -require- a dedicated downhill rig.

I've seen the following places mentioned:

    Big Bear
    Wisp
    Davis + Canaan Valley (I think a friend did a Canaan race years ... 20? ... ago)

Mixed reports on Coopers Rock: I rode it lazily years ago on a rigid Schwin High Plains.

    Thanks for input,
    Mark

I've ridden Wisp a few times. Lift assist is an option, or you can just ride. Quite a bit of varied terrain there. Some good downhill, but definitely doable without a downhill rig(every time I've been there I've had just a hardtail and felt fine).

New Germany State Park isn't bad riding at all. I was just up there camping and decided to bring the bike along just in case there was something good around. Every morning before the family got up I went out and explored and there were some fun trails around there I had a great time and plan to go back there again sense I did not have the time explore them all. Also I hear there are trails over in by the Savage River as well.
