    Recommendations for Blacksburg, please

A buddy and I have 2 hrs to ride Friday afternoon. We are coming from Richmond, so Roanoke could work too. We are looking for intermediate singletrack, I'd say, and from the looks of it, Brush Mountain might be too much a challenge, given the reported elevation changes. If you are familiar with Poor Farm in Ashland or Pocahontas, those are trails we are looking for. I'm thinking 8 to 14 miles, depending on elevation change. How about Mill Mtn or Pandapas? Thanks in advance!

Carvins cove has it all(easy to difficult). Just off I 81. Stop in the bike shop on 311 and grab a detailed map. Well worth it if you are passing through! Roanokeoustide website has a good description of the area.

I'd second the Carvin's recommendation as a stop on the way to Blacksburg. I think they still have the parking lot at Pandapas closed due to the govt. shutdown. (Not saying you cant ride out there if you want to just park on one of the FS roads).

If your looking for a similar experience to what Poor Farm has to offer I'd do a ride of the "middle and lower" trails at the cove. Just tossing this out there but 4G to 4G extension to tuck-a-way to exploring the lowers until you have ate up your 2hrs. Pretty minimal elevation there. Or for a bit of a workout maybe up the fireroad from 4G to Jacobs then over to tuck-a-way.

Looks great, guys, thanks! Saw the maps and info on Mountain Junkies and Roanoke Outside, which should keep us from getting lost:

We hit Carvins Cove on Friday and Sunday and had great rides! We mainly rode the lowers and a bit of the middles (e.g. 4G extension) and had the chance to ride it dry on Fri and muddy on Sun. Great work maintaining the trails yet keeping them natural-looking! We met some nice and helpful folk on the trails and the parking lot. What a great thing you all have going up there. Thanks for the suggestion. We'll definitely be back!

Glad you were able to hit up the Cove. If you are on a quick trip again a place to keep in mind is the new trailhead at Hollins - Plantation road. A minute off of I-81 and you have the two mile trail that takes you over to the dam. Not much else to ride there, but what is there is very nice.

Sounds good! We spoke with several local riders who mentioned that and other trail development projects. Really impressive!
