Any tire combo recommendations for Virginia?

Just moved to Williamsburg from Utah and after a few laps at Harwood's Mill, I've realized my small block 8s aren't gonna cut it here. I've seen a few Ralphs around but I've always stayed away due to the sidewall vs. rocks issue in Utah.

Racing Ralphs come with a sankeskin sidewall which should help with the rocks. Small Block 8 might be a decent rear tire for the summer when the trails are fairly dry. I primarily use Ardents on both bikes. They are a little heavier, but they are fast with great grip. They have the EXO sidewalls for the rocks.

Thanks. I'll check them both out. Keeping an 8 on the back would be cool; I'd have a quick spare.

Just put a pair of Nevegals on the FSR. heavy and slow, but damn did they hook up!

I ran them on my old stumpy in Alaska and they were great but, as you said, heavy.

You're in a relatively flat/not rocky part of the state. If you want to travel west a little, you'll find yourself potentially dealing with some chunk. When I visit family towards the mountains there, I use a Mountain King/Psycho Genius combo. Works well for me.

For western VA, my favorite combo thus far has been a Nevegal on front and Maxxis Ignitor on rear.

To me it seems there is so much more than where you ride in tire choice. What do you ride and how you plan to ride it. With that said, absolutely the only tire combo anyone even remotely close to VA should ride on is Hans Damf/Ardent

I run SB8's at Freedom Park and York River all the time and they do great. I personally wouldnt change them for XC. If you come up to Richmond, most trails are hard pack, dry and the SB8's are perfect(in my opinion)
