    Year of Ritchey P23 ?

Anyone know how to tell the year of a Ritchey P23? Mine has been resprayed, rather thickly I might add, but I am able to make out the serial number on the bb shell of 385. I'm not sure if his serial numbers actually ment anything or not but this frame has Suntour dropouts on the rear end if that helps. Any clues or signs I can look for?

    Thanks all...

    Probably 1990.

    Check here:

Each bicycle owned exponentially increases the probability that none is working correctly.

You can tell all p23 by their dropouts. 1st year had shimano drops. 2nd and 3rd years had ritchey drops. 3rd and 4th have ritchey breezer plug type. Lets see what you have.

    Yep yep, good eye BP.

BTW, I added the secong picture just to show that ridge that goes around the bottom of the headtube. I'm not sure if that came on all the P23's or if it has any sort of significance.

Oh yeah, 1st years also had suntour drops too. I first ordered my g1 team at right after they announced the proto in the mags. I wanted a 20 team in black. They took almost a year to get me one. When it arrived I opened the box to see ritchey had sent me a tigged red 18". I *****ed whom ever out and a month later my team arrived. Back to the point the tigged one had suntour drops on it. Maybe thats the way the tigs came. The shimano's were lighter weight. Here are some quick pics:

1st gen. shimano team serial# 0p5 currently mine

2nd gen ritchey tange made drops team serial 0p55 mine
sorry for the bad shot. This one i just quickly took with bad lighting. I'll replace later.

3rd and final gen. They used these on most 3rd gen and on p2whatevers like the sneekey pete or what ever those things were called. At this point there full fillet frames were no longer produced. This p20 use to be mine but has now been replaced. So you'll have too look real close. The drops were real nice. Had the breezer type drop ins and a nice tr logo on each drop facing the back. Maybe somebody else has some close ups of these.

I guess that answers my question and makes it an 89, right? Incidently, is there a company that still makes that teflon-only housing. You know, that stuff that used to get used to cover exposed sections of cable? I'd call it a pre-Cable O's item but I don't really know how old Cable O's are. My LBS just looks at me funny whenever I ask if they have any of that. I need like a whole role of that stuff...

They don't fit easily through the steel cable guide on the P-23

my p-21 has the little loop at the seat cluster, but the 23's that i can find on the net all seem to have a standard cable stop.

Not sure if this helps, but I am original owner of a 20" P23 special ordered and received winter 1999/ 2000. I just looked at the serial number under the bottom bracket, and it is 1699. Looked at the dropouts, and they say Suntour.
