    Wanting a winter project.

I am wanting to find a winter project that I can do in the basement. I want to build a single speed, coaster brake play bike. I have read the term Klunker or Bomber used, so something like that. I like the lines of the older Schwinns, Typhoons, Corvettes, etc. I will need something that will hold up to my weight, 250 lbs, to do some mild trail riding. I have heard some of the old Schwinns referred to as middleweights and I don't understand what that refers to.

Any suggestions on a year or model I should look for? Any other makes to look at?

Schwinn middleweights had 1.75" tires (and narrower fenders).

Any old Schwinn frame may be acceptable for cruising around, but I'd use something stronger for any riding that involves hills or sprinting.

Unless you're going for true period "klunker" correct any old cruiser frame will do. The mix and match of parts is the fun part. There are no rules.
Zip ties? Not on my bike!

    Want:
    650B rims 80's vintage 32 or 36
Salsa or similar stem. 1" threadless. 120 with rise.
