Type 2 fork color choice input needed. Limited VRC content. :)

Pass this thread by if you have issues with modern bikes on the VRC board. For the rest of you please feel free to play along.

OK boys and girls. I'm having Mr. Potts build me a new Type 2 for my BlackSheep Stellar 29". As most of us are aware, paint selection is one of the most difficult parts of the custom build process. I'm going for the two color option, disc mounts, suspension corrected, yadayada. I can change out the head set, seat collar and qr's if needed to accent the colors. My first reaction was to go with a simple black crown and white/ivory legs but why pass up an opportunity to add a splash to an otherwise drab color pallet?

Here's the bike. The cranks are being changed to either black or silver Middleburn's and the post can go silver or black also. And for the spacer police, a new ti stem is in the works.

sweet! If he's getting them painted then I would avoid red. I had D + D paint my fork red and pewter and I gave him the red to match and he was pretty off. The gray/pewter was nice though.

    black and silver? PINK!

Schwinn Radient Coppertone legs and ivory crown with copper metallic sparkle. That will set off the rivets on my saddle. What say you?

Match your frame on the top, black for the lowers.
Seek: Koski Trailmaster. Breezer Series 2, or 3. Fillet brazed Ibis Custom. Cunningham Racer. Otis Guy (but not that softride model). That's all I need I don't need anything else... except... except for an old Mountain Goat bar stem combo. And that's all I need. I don't need anything else. Except.....

What A-C? Have you confirmed that with SP? Fully suspension-corrected 29'er Type-II's aren't normally advised/made.

Funny, I've been thinking about the same thing for an upcoming build. This one has a Willits-built type II with Paragon dropouts. The fork needs to be refinished as the original clearcoat is a bit beat up - some rust worms are already forming. A two tone color scheme would be sweet to accentuate the scalloped Potts crown.

Some great suggestions here ... although cream with about any other color just screams Type II !

    That bike is not boring!

And to tie it all together, Nightshade rider I just got a Pink fork for my Willits (WOW, not Type 2) from Martin in the UK. Very grateful for his generosity and stoked on the color.

Are you going for classy, or garish?

That Mountie is sweet. Man he does nice work.

Halaburt. Yes it's been confirmed. 455mm with a 43mm offset.

Rumpfy. Although born and raised in The Bay I don't see a need to fly the colors.

Hollister: You're correct. No clown shoes. I just want a splash of color. A deep blue. Maroon/Burgundy. My GF said periwinkle.
The Coppertone has always been one of my favorite bike colors so it's a sentimental favorite. I could save that for a clunker project and go with a deeper color on this.

Congrats on the new fork and the decision to go with two-tone colors! It's one of the best looking rigid forks ever made, and I think it just cries for a two-tone paint scheme. When I was waiting for mine, there were a bunch ahead of me that were just painted plain black. I've always been partial to the 'classic' color combos with Ivory. An ivory crown with burgundy/orange/skyblue/forest green legs look great. I chose ivory with orange.

Some other great examples I've seen that look really hot, are black, or some other darker color, in a metallic finish on crown with grey/ti color legs.

I went to Spectrum Powder Works' website for color inspirations. Lots of good examples of colors that work together and look great on bikes.

Another thought, you should try to avoid being too matchy with all the colors on the rest of your bike. If you want the fork to be a highlight, build off of that. Pick whatever color you want for the fork, and the frame will look great. But don't go too crazy with color anodized accents. If you want a lot of colored shiny bits a la Eriksens, then go with understated fork colors, like black, white, grey.

You won't see many if any colored parts on my bikes. The QR's are from another bike long gone and were handy. Who knows which way I'll go.
