So I picked up a couple of 1990(?) mtbs this week...
For my lady friend, a Giant Iguana...

According to my mad internet skillz, the code on the rear Sansin hub, "GH", means August, 1990; the "90" over "F" on the SR crankarms means June, 1990; and the seatpost, "I-90" means Sept., 1990. Although I initially had a feeling that the seatpost was not original. Maybe it is. The seat probably isn't(?) because it has a taint groove.
Do youz guyz suppose this is a '90? or 91? Drivetrain is Suntour XCM 3X7.
This is my special lady friend's first mountain bike and I think it's just perfect for our buttery-smooth, flowy singletrack that runs alongside the creek.
And for my new "beater bike"/commuter, a Spesh HardRock...

Shimano hubs and crank arm are coded "NH", August, 1989. But I think this is a 1990 model bike because of the Shimano GS 3X7 drivetrain. No?
People can hate on it because it's only a HardRock, but I like it. I've always liked the way these old Speshes feel. It's in purty dang good shape, sort of like a barn bike, but the front shifter doesn't go clicky-clicky.

Giant Iguana. We sold those in the shop I worked at as a kid. Gotta be one of the funniest bike names ever.

Same thing here - always much feigned fear when a Giant Iguana rolled into our shop.
it's a GIANT IGUANA!!! AAhhHH!!!
And sorry - can't ID the year of the bikes since i didn't start riding until '92 and I can't be bothered to look it up ;-)

I thought of the Iguana as a Pig-uana.

It is heavy like a pig. I've never picked up a pig, not in the literal sense, but the bike is heavy.
