    Selling Parts

For those of you who need to occasionally sell off parts. Do you sell the bike complete or strip it and sell off everything individually? Personally, frames, wheels and rims need bigger boxes than I can get for free at the USPS. It's hard to sell a set of wheels and charge shipping especially if the shipping cost almost what the wheels are.

Bigger items might be more profitable to sell locally on CL or even swaps. This after eBay/PayPal fees. Less of the headaches you mentioned too.

Check with LBS for frame & wheel boxes, if you can't sell them locally.

CL buyers in the greater Cleveland area are notorious cheapskates.

Some bikes are worth more complete - particularly older bikes. While other bikes ('90s) are probably worth more parted out. Part of my decision process is parting out an original bike is hard to do, but parting out a bike that I assembled component-by-component is not an issue.

And as Retro Dude said, check your LBS for boxes. Shops have large piles of box bikes that have to be hauled to the recycling center. If you lighten their load they're happy.
Each bicycle owned exponentially increases the probability that none is working correctly.
