Rider down - Nuke Proof content

Who could forget the old Nuke Proof ads with James Bethea in them?

James was involved in an auto accident a little over a week ago and is in need of some help getting back on the bike.

In case you don't know about him, here is a story the local university newspaper ran about him.

Thanks G. He is out of the hospital after some surgeries to put stuff back together. He's already missing riding his bike. Wednesday is my turn to take him dinner, so I will have another update after that.

James is mobile, but moving slowly. Doc gave permission for showers, so he is pretty stoked about that. He is one of the most positive people I know, and his positive outlook is really going to help him on his road to recovery.

James has been out and about a little bit, moving slowly, but moving. A local bar / bike shop where he was wrenching is holding a fundraiser for him this weekend. There will be a ride and they are donating a portion of beer sales that day to his recovery. He is in good spirits, but there are some fears to overcome with a trauma like that. He saw his van in person last week for the first time when he went to recover some personal effects, and said that affected him more than he expected. A mutual friend was in a motorcycle accident last week, so it looks like he might have a buddy for physical therapy. James is a really strong guy with a super positive outlook, so he will come back even stronger. Thanks for your concern!

Got to spend some time with James this weekend at the fundraiser. He is in great spirits, but doesn't have a ton of energy because his body is doing a lot of healing. PT is painful, but progress is happening.

James is overjoyed as today was his first time back on a bike since the accident.

Today James took his first steps without crutches since the accident 90 days ago. Lots of swimming is making him stronger.

The last time I saw James, he and Dylan rocketed past me on the Towers road climb like I was standing still. Ringing their bells and laughing all the way. He'll be fast again I'm sure.
Zip ties? Not on my bike!

James is back on the bike! We banged out a 42 mile gravel ride today. He is still wearing an ankle brace and goes in next Friday to have some ankle screws removed, but it was really great to be out there with him again.

Tell James I said it looks like he’s getting back to top “Squid” form.
He’ll know what that means ...
Wanted: more of the same ... but different
