    Resurrecting Moots Mountaineer #390

I'm considering rebuilding my old Moots Mountaineer; blame the impulse on lurking here of late. The original build was of Suntour XC Pro and WTB Grease Guard. I still have most of the old components save the crank, rear derailleur, and a few others, but what really sucks, is I can't seem to find my original Moots fenders. So, what say you, still worthy of rebuilding?

Pardon the '90s vintage bug guts sprinkled throughout

No Moots shot is complete without the obligatory Mr. Moots himself

Very cool bike, well worth the effort to keep it original. Thanks for sharing it here.
Too many bikes, and just enough time to ride them.

Awesome! So what year is it? Seems earlier than 1990 but you say it had XC Pro. And what brakes did it originally use?

    Thanks.

I commissioned the build 4/90 (delivered 7/90) and I spec'd it with WTB Roller Cams.

    Cool bike!

Question for you, et al, perhaps it's the pic, but it seems that the chain stays are swept upwards, which would certainly make the chain strike more frequently going through the rough. Can't think of why that would be a good thing, so I ask....

The Schwinn Paramounts had a dropped CS which made sense in terms of function, so I'll use that one as a counter example.

I haven't seen too many of these guys, and this is the first one I noticed it on.

    Thoughts?

Beauty! You've kept it this long, why not build her up?

I gather it's just a design decision. My new Igleheart 953 650B SS has a similar chainstay design.

MCS et al., also check out Mombat's similar vintage Moots that ended up there via da'Pig. A lot of similar details and some nice detailing on the lugs.
