Questions - History, date range and comments about - Mavic Rando M5 rims

I have questions about Mavic Rando M5 rims...see photo.

From the MOMBAT site (MOMBAT: Timeline of Mountain Bike Components and Accessories) I can see they first came on the scene 1986 but then they don't seem to show up again. Were they just available for the one year?

The 85 Palo Alto (Ritchey) Catalog at the Old Mountain Bikes site: ( http://www.oldmountainbikes.com/cata...paloalto1b.jpg ) refers to 'The best way to upgrade your mountain bike is with a new set of high performance wheels." It goes on to mention, 'the new tough, narrow Mavic mountain bike rim..' Is this the one it refers to?

Anyone use/using them now or then?

    Are they any good?

    When were they last available?

The ones I have are built with Shimano Deore XT M730 hubs. Is that the last era they were used?

    Any help/information would be appreciated.

    Thanks for that information.

I see the article indicates they are expensive, heavy, but with Mavic quality.

So apparently only suited for rich, strong, Francophiles.
