PSA - Grafton brake bushings
In case you find yourself rebuilding your grafton brakes and you find that you inner bronze bushings are scratches and bind on your brake post don't fret. Turns out old JG didn't actually use metric bushings, I mean why would he??
You can't get bronze 8mm bore, 9.5 mm OD and 16mm long bushings, but you can get 5/16" bore, 3/8" OD and 5/8" long.
5/16 is 7.97mm (roughly) so you just have to ream them to 8mm or so, or just run some emery cloth through them to open them up just a bit to fit over them standard 8mm brake post.

Umm, what?
I'm a machinist and your post makes no sense. How do you ream a 3/8" OD bushing to 7/16" or 8mm?
And you're right, JG probably didn't use metric bushings; he probably made them to his spec. Pretty easy with a machine shop at one's disposal.
I applaud your efforts to try and help (and understand where you are trying to go), but maybe re-read your post and edit it so it makes some sense.

Sorry it was late and I was tired.
I meant to say that the 5/16" bore is just shy of 8mm, so it's a snug fit at best and if the tolerance stackup goes the wrong way you'll get binding of the brake on the brake boss.

Makes much more sense now. And you're right, 5/16" is .3125", and 8mm is .316", just close enough to either work or be a PIA!
Thanks for the tip!

Yep. Thanks for the error check!!!
The one part I can't figure out how to find a replacement is the plastic bushing, spacer thingy between the main metal parts. The set I was working on was complete, but a couple of them were cracked and so ultimately finding new ones would be nice. I just don't know what they would be called.

I don't have any mag light cups but I have black aluminum ones. You might try Martin at Second Spin Cycles.com.

Thanks for the tip I'll check them out.
In the meantime, if the black aluminum will work, I'd like to buy a pair if you don't mind.
Thanks again,
Paul

I do have a few pedal parts left. The cleats are the later stamped ones not the machined ones but they work about the same. Let me know what you need and I will do my best to help.

Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I needed 10 posts to reply to private posts. So here is my 10th post. I'm so surprised to see that after almost 20 years I'm still remembered. Grafton Performance had it's ups and downs, cracking cranks and all. I guess I still have a following. So be it. If I can help I will.
