Official What is it Worth thread (WIW)

What's It Worth (WIW)
This is about as difficult to define as the definition of 'vintage retro classic'. There is no clear answer. And though this question is asked often, its almost always asked of a different part or bike...making links to helpful threads difficult.

Whats it worth? What is your bike worth? Are you sitting on a gold mine? Maybe, maybe not. The best way to determine the value of your bike. Put it on eBay for $.99 and let it ride. This probably the most best way to figure the value. Of course, how well your auction description is and how clean and nicely you take pictures of your bike will also affect its value. MTBR.com has a 'Vintage' section in the classifieds. It hits your target audience perfectly.
If you don't want to sell your bike, but just want to know if it has value...take these things into account:

* Age of the bike.
* Originality of the bike (paint, parts)
* Condition of the bike (paint, parts)
* Is it a low production run bike? Custom/Hand made by a reputable craftsmen?
* Component list? Are the parts 'top or the line' or quality aftermarket upgrades?

Worth....or value, will always be a gray area. What may be worth a lot to you, may be worth very little to someone else. Even something suchs as sentimental worth can sometimes affect market value. Do your research. Watch local Craigslist and eBay for like items to gauge the worth (value) of what you have.

All WIW questions will be dumped into this thread.

Do we really need a sticky for this? When I'm logged in on a laptop with a mid-size screen, I can only see three threads and they are stickies. Two of those stick threads mention WIW. Why not make this thread somewhere else. It doesn't seem worthy of a sticky thread IMHO.

I would put that laptop on ebay. Take good pictures and let it ride.

For that one I'll give you full power bars - not just the wrappers. Someone needs to get a shop rat to do a couple days of photography. I hadn't seen that Moots before. The cable routing on the Ham is neat too - same as on my wife's Wombat. I guess Charlie was into that routing in 86 or so.

There's one on eBay right now. Watch that auction, it'll give you a ball park.

We purchased one about 2 years ago for $350...it was in OK shape. The one on e-bay had a buy-it-now for $500...maybe it still does?

we paid $500 for ours, mark, it was $250 each between the two of us. Ours isn't in as nice of shape as the one on EBay, it seems like a good deal at $550 buy it now.

I have a 98 Ti Phoenix. Built w/ a roller cam and 140mm spacing. In 2002 I installed a new XTR group and Marzocchi atom race fork. Haven't ridden it much since then. I'm just curious what the frame might be worth. I can't seem to find any archives showing what it might go for. I don't want to sell off my loyal friend but the wife has a bun in the oven and it's pushing me that direction. Picture posted on the Phoenix thread thanks.

What is it, what's it worth, what'll I do with it?

I found one with no seat and a little rusty. I found this image online describing the seat.

I think I want it just because.

Anyone know anything about it?

Edit: just found out what it is, http://www.pedersenbicycle.dk/

I have never seen a bike like that before, but I have my own problems. I was wondering if any of the late 80's to mid 90's gary fisher marlins are worth anything at all. they look cool

Pretty sure there weren't Marlins till the mid 90s. Not worth so much. If really clean maybe a couple hundred.

As some may have noticed I have not been posting lately.
Well I have fallen on hard times, so I may be loosing my storage facility soon, and that would mean saying goodbye to most of my bikes. There are one or two that some of you have expressed interest in.
I am in the bay area for a few days and might be available to meet and talk at the roaster or the bike shop in LG.
I have access to a pc for the next few days and will be checking the BB so if you like post to this thread or pm me with contact info and we can make it happen.

Neat cranks. NOS always helps. The fact that they're Cannondale branded probably isn't as good as if they were true MM's.

$150-200 is my guess.
