    NYC Area Vintage Ride

Hopefully summer will be here soon, and so its time to think about an NYC area vintage ride. I am thinking that either June 15 or 16 would be excellent. Last time we met up at Graham Hills, which was fun, but what about Blue Mountain this time? Tons of excellent trails, the bulk of which are vintage friendly, or at least vintage ridable.

Reply here if you are interested and we can plan with more detail. Let's get our VRC on!

Think it's great and very cool of you to initiate this function, but also thing a NYC ride should be in NYC. Maybe getting out of the city would be better trail wise, but think you'd have a MUCH bigger turn out and maybe even inspire some new members to join if it were in the 5 boros. Hook up, enjoy a close and easy destination, then plan another one face to face for further away.

Food for thought but I'm not psyched about riding in Highbridge or Staten Island and Cunningham takes just as long to get to as Blue. I figure Blue is in NY they way Giants Stadium is in NY

Sorry not to be able to make it this round. Being across the country limits my northeast riding.

How come Staten Island always gets the Rumpfy end of the stick? I'm down for anywhere and look forward to seeing/meeting those I haven't pissed off.

Too bad Nate, hope screaming bunny makes a return appearance. Where is that guy?

Hop over the Outer Bridge and swing by my house or we could meet at the rest area near 171 on the GSP if I have to leave straight from the hospital.

Maybe I'll have the 16" '94 Xizang built up (properly, Ameybrook and Rumpfy) and take that.

Yep - looks like my reproductive capabilities will remain intact - much to my wife's and humanity's dismay.

Crap, I guess I better start getting in shape :P. Let me know when and I'll meet you all there!

BP- If we plan the ride for slightly later in the day I can come pick you and the Newsboy up, kill two birds (Merlin and Flying Pig) with one stone, so to speak.

    Bushpig,

Lets nail this down as to date, time and venue.

Sunday, June 16th is Father's Day and since I am one AND my dad is still around (and still working at 74) SATURDAY the 15th is probably much better to maintain peace amongst the family UNLESS we make it early on Sunday.

Ok. Let's target the ride for June 15. More details to come, but the plan will be to meet in the Blue parking lot. There are some brutal trails at Blue but there are trails that, which challenging, can be enjoyed on a vintage bike. The pace will be social and no-drop.

Ever present cell phone will be put to use. Not as good as a real camera but better than nothing - sometimes.

I just Zip-tied the mount for a Contour to my helmet and am charging the camera for some testing today. Problem with these is you never know what you've captured until you download and watch it. Hopefully no ground-sky-ground video today.

Doing a quick tear down and clean up.
Swapped original rigid forks for my original Mag 20s and its "dancing with death" crown.
Threw on some new brake shoes and probably go with reissue Smokes and Dards rather than my original Smoke Lite Comps.

Otherwise should be good to go.

It needs an accutrax btw. Such a sick ride. Local shop in Edmonton had two, but I haven't seen that many since.

I will firm up time in the next day or so.

Got one from Angry. Plan is to paint it red white and blue and build up the bike as a JT replica.

Although tomorrow looks like a rainy day, that should clear up mid day Friday and Sat looks very nice.

Let's plan to meet in the parking lot at Blue for 9:30am. I plan to take the 7:44am train from Grand Central. If you are taking hte train, don't forget your bike pass.

Was it red/white/blue? I always thought it was maroon, white and maybe purple-ish??

    F-B

You're 100% correct and my plan is to bring the magazines I have with those color photos to a body shop to match them as closely as possible.

Of course Home Depot might be able to help too ...

Interestingly, Fillet-brazed description matches the photos in some of the magazines I have on hand whereas the colors are clearly red white and blue in the photo above.

Yeah, I think I've seen alternate colors somewhere before. Photos also show in 90 he alternated between a neon Accutrax and pea green one.

That's the main photo of that bike burned into memory (some ads from that year show him running a Switchblade which he supposedly did not like). To me that looks like maroon/purple instead of red?

Side note, I got to hang out with Johnny T at the Hangtown National a few weeks ago as we watched Eli race. So cool! I had 5,478 questions I could have asked, but wasn't even able to get out of the single digits.

I was hoping to have someone I might be able to keep in sight.
Now I'll have to settle for seeing someone only when Bushpig laps me.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a perfect day weather-wise, but you're probably right about the trail conditions. That's okay, it gives me more time to get some solo rides in before I embarrass myself in front of other people.

    Beautiful day so far.
Considering driving up to Blue anyway and if not, will ride Morris Lewis a bit.
Don't know if I'll go Vintage or Modern for the ride though.
