NorCal Summer Vintage Ride, Saturday, August 31st.

We should do at least one vintage gathering this summer. Weather has been clear and mild.
I'm proposing the below route and location which I'm happy to lead, but if there's something else everyone is feeling like doing, I'm open to whatever.

    Ride Location: Santa Cruz (UCSC/Wilder)
Meeting Location: Golf Club Dr (Right off of 9/River St, close to Hwy 17/ Hwy 1), by the Emma McCrary Trail entrance.
Meeting Time: 9:30am, rolling by 9:45ish
Ride Details: 18-21miles distance, 2200-2500ft elevation gain.
Route Details: This ride is 85-90% single track and nearly all under the cover of the trees. For the climbing efforts, you get a significant amount of flowy downward pointed single track. No steep, grueling climbs. Multiple bail out options and/or options to make this ride longer. Beautiful eucalyptus grove overlooking the ocean at the main rest point.
However, this is a real mountain bike ride. There will be a few challenging sections of trail. Some trails may or may not be officially sanctioned, so if your moral compass points due north, this is not the ride for you.
We'll be starting at the newly finished Emma McCrary trail which is possibly more fun to climb than it is to descend (and I never make that kind of claim) followed by Pogonip/UConn up into campus, visit Old Cabin on the Wilder side. The ride will end with a 4 mile gradual downhill (which actually takes +/- 30 mins). The best way to end a ride.

Optional: Good little Mexican joint just up the road in Felton after the ride.

Give a shout if you can make it, plenty of time to plan.

    LOL, Joe!

I'll try to make it. Will know soon. Do we have Mark S's email in case he doesn't check here? He'd have a blast. So would Shawn and his boys if he could just get outside his comfort zone and commit to it! Datasurfer....calling Datasurfer.

    Ha!

Both of you need to make it to this one since you both missed Keyesville. And the Iron Horse.

Are you crazy, do you think anybody would come clean on an open forum and say the ride is too long and difficult, or that it's YOU? Not me!

    haha!

Maybe open it up to modern bikes. Half a foot of travel is kinda hard to beat for ripping through that forest.

That said, I'm taking out a vintage rig here in a few minutes. Trail pics thread could get a new post later.

I know, always so hard to have to tone it down out there by riding the old stuff. Still fun though.

Looking forward to the trail pics.

    Hey E.,

I haven't been on a ride in 3 months, and may be in LA due to family obligations. If I can get a few more rides in beforehand and the timing works out, I will see you there...

Hey Eric, I appreciate you setting up rides every summer for us, I have been on a few and they are a blast. It's not just about the riding, it's hanging with like minded folks, ok, "bike geeks".

Anyway, I can't do the 31st. I will be out of town participating in one of my other hobbies, Dove hunting.

Wish I could be there! Have fun and be safe

I was gonna suggest you fly out here and ride with me, Bushpig, Chefmiguel, Fatmikeynyc and whoever else we could wrangle.

Roots, rocks and plenty of singletrack. I'd even let you ride a bike of your choosing, though my bikes may be too big for you.

    Seems you're all set, though.

Nice! Way to dig deep and make it happen. Would it help if we made the start time earlier? 9am? (assuming its cool with everyone else)

Oh not to worry, I de-museum'ed mine. Home turf for these bikes!

Sweet! Looking forward to meeting you and seeing this Phoenix in person. I'm kinda tempted to ride mine out there actually, but its unfairly modern.

I know, they look awful don't they. The NOS GC that was on the front literally disintegrated when I pulled it off. Side wall like a dry leaf, bead pulled away from it (like that OnZa at KV!). I don't want to deal with tire failure out there.
