    Mystery Dia-compe levers

Anyone recognize these? They were on a recent pick up. At first the neon threw me off, but now I'm beginning to like them. I have a green and black project bike in mind that these would be great for. Curious as to what they are.

I wanted to say that they are Dia-Comp SS-5 levers that someone powdercoated (or painted) green but now that I've compared them to the SS-5s that I sold a few years ago I'm changing my mind.

Here are pictures of one of the SS-5 levers that I sold.

Yeah, not ss-5's and not ss-7s. The clamp is all wrong. The paint on these is tough, so could be a powder coat job. BMX levers maybe?

Without evening opening the thread I knew which ones you'd be asking about... those are the Advantage 5 levers. The Advantage series levers immediately preceeded the SS series levers.

Thanks Dee. Do you happen to know if they were available from the factory in neon green?

There was even a name for these before that if I recall correctly... It's stamped right onto the lever blade. 183

I thought that the 183 preceded the AD-5?

They are 183 levers marketed at the bmx crowd. Came stock on allot of bikes 85-86. Came in three versions. locking button, locking switch, and then yours. Yes they predated the ss series. Hey Pig?

They are all over ebay being sold as "BMX" levers alright. Looks like they come in all sorts of crazy colors in addition to green.
