Kestrel CSX - hole in frame?
I have searched for another example of this hole/mount and cant find anything on it. Has anyone ever seen this or have any idea what its for?
98(?) Kestrel CSX - NDS seatstay has a hole in it for some kind of a mount but I cant figure out what its for ... was there a disc brake mount for this frame? The hole is stepped but it is not threaded and there is another smaller threaded hole on the dropout but its larger than a rack mount tab.
I helped a friend with the build and it went together smoothly and its set up 1X8 with XTR V brakes a Mavic wheelset and Z max tires and a CF fork ... so its ready to go, I just want to know what the hole in the seatstay is for? Tia

Yep that was for a disc brake bracket. I saw one mounted back in the day (late 90's maybe) If my old brain remembers correctly, I ran into the guy (figuratively) up on the Chumash Trail. I have an early CSX (92) so I stopped and chatted.
I think I remember it having AMP disc's and a yellow Judy fork
my Kestrel doesn't have those holes on the left seat tube and dropout but I had a local machinist drill two 5mm holes on the dropout and fab a bracket/adaptor for disc brake
but mine I believe was an earlier model '92 I think and was made by Cycle Composites, Inc in Ca
I have it in SS set-up (34T x 16T) without the need of a tensioner and rigid Mosso fork. I just acquired a set of NOS magura HS33 hydraulic rimbrakes but am still contemplating whether to install it in the Kestrel or on the '92 Gary Fisher ProCaliber
nice build BTW, congrats
