    Grafton brake L-brackets, good-bad?

I have some Grafton brake with the L-brackets on them and another set without and a more conventional way of attaching the pads.

I have a vague memory of the brackets being a bit mushy and the setup without brackets better. I also have a vague memory of being able to convert the brakes into a bracketless setup. Before I spend time fiddling with them, what are you opinions on these setups?

To me, Its ok to use L-bracket with narrow rims. L-bracket make me feel more rigidly.
