Cracked brake boss on RM Altitude T.O.

Last year I bought an older ('98-99?) Rocky Mountain Altitude Team Only from a family friend. I rode it for a few months, put it in the basement for the (long Winnipeg) winter, and pulled it out today to find a crack in the rear brake boss. The LBS I called told me that it is probably repairable (the frame is steel), but that I'd have to find and contact a welder myself. Any suggestions on what to do?

I tried to get a couple pictures of the crack, but the attached ones are the best I could get.

Unless you travel to Toronto regularly, I'd suggest Mike Truelove at MT Metal http://members.shaw.ca/mtmetal/
