Ritchey also made an all black-headset - although their modern headsets are a mix of silver and black.

The scalloped 600 headsets look fancy on an '80s bike, but out of place on a '90s frame.

Found a Campy record, silver, at a good price. Anyone's experience w/ it? It's the late 90s aluminum one. Looks pretty.

What kind of bike? Is it a real classic one. I would never build a Ritchey, for example, with Campy. For me a no go. On The other hand a Fat Chance with Campy, why not. But, maybe, i am too Classic.

Am I the only one who likes the Cane Creek 110? Maybe that's why they often sneak thru for about half what a Chris King goes for.

Odyssey Toro Pro sometimes show up for a reasonable price.

If OP mentioned a King headset what is so grievous about mentioning Cane Creek? I was merely suggesting a top notch alternative to 'King' that often sells for much less.

I also provided a VRC option that hadn't been mentioned.

Maybe you should think it thru next time instead of resorting to ass-hollister mode?

FWIW I also saw his post on FB in which someone suggested some BMX headset from porkchopbmx. Why don't you head on over to the vintage mountain bike FB page and insult that suggestion as well?

You realize that Kings have been around a long long time whereas Cane Creek is post vrc. Throwing up a known overpricer doesn't exactly make your point and also doesn't establish a reliable price guide.

How did you suddenly want silver, Colker?

Umm... King headsets have been around since the 1970s. The CC 110 has been around for about 5 years (+/- a couple of years). Unless a 2005 frame is "vintage" I'm not sure that a 110 headset is very appropriate.

Not that the 110 is a bad headset. It's just not old, and I'm pretty sure that it never came in a threaded version.

They are offered on the website in 1-1/8" threaded

    110-Series

but an eBay search yields several 110 series headsets in 1" threaded as well for just under a hundy.

Definitely not VRC, but would certainly be a nice choice for a less finicky build.

Wow!! That's pretty cool of Crane Creek to start doing that. I know of some non-vintage road bikes where that would be a nice option.

I would much rather buy on the LBS/ local buildr than hit ebay paypal these days. Satin looks way better than my tange chrome anyway.. which is shot.

I must say that was a very un-moderate reply!

A modern 1" threaded Headset is about as close to the definition of a retro bicycle part as you can get.

The OP did not specify he needed to have a period correct headset. In fact his FB post suggested he wasn't all that picky about the headset to be used.

We don't know what he posted on fb.

Did you expect us to gather info about people's private fb posts and publish it on a public forum? In fact, it's not very kosher to do so without permission.

Edit: and Hollister's right. There is an assumption that we are discussing period correct parts in the vrc sub forum.

I don't 'expect' you to know what he posted on FB. I didn't even mention it until the a-holes started in with their snide comments. Once they did - I felt obliged to enlighten them since it was clear they didn't have all the info.

So - maybe if people weren't such overzealous douchebags there would be no need to 'out' FB posts now would there?

Are you suggesting that every time somebody makes a non VRC suggestion that other forum members should then attack them and suggest that they don't know which forum they are visiting?

Perhaps this site would get more contributors if some posters weren't such s#!theads and the moderators didn't encourage and justify it?

Cane Creek was making headsets pre-1997. Maybe you should moderate the noob forum instead?

    Cane Creek Headsets

For more than two decades, Cane Creek has set the standard for bicycle headsets. By introducing the world to threadless technology, Cane Creek helped redefine modern bicycles; making possible the introduction of suspension forks, shaped head-tubes, carbon steerer tubes and other innovations that continue today.
