'91 Gary Fisher 16th anniversary HKEK

I don't own it, but I'm thinking of buying it. I can't find much info about it though.

It's the team colors, looks just like the supercaliber, pretty sure it's aluminum, has all Exage 500 components. It's not in the best shape. Is this thing worth buying? He's asking $200, I'm thinking $50-75. Should it be restored? Will the purists have a fit if I convert it to SS?

Just a heads up, there is a sticky above "what's it worth?". Use it you may draw better answers than mine.
If its converted to ss then it's not restored. It's modified and I doubt purists will get upset about it.
Is it worth it? Would need more pics than that one to be honest. Is it all rusty? Dented? Missing parts? Those pics would make it a bit easier to answer your question.
Either way good luck with it.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using the Tap-Talk app on my phone, guess it doesn't show the stickies. Just to be clear it's still a 21 speed, no SS conversion.

It must have been upgraded to the exage stuff early on, I can't find any '91Gary Fishers that came with it stock. The other odd thing is the frame material, from what I've found, it should be steal. It's like they put a hoo koo sticker on a supercaliber for this special edition.

The catalog I found shows that it was originally specced with suntour x-1 stuff. I don't know which is better, surely the shimano.

Kinda decent bike, but I doubt the purists would mind if you built it into a tall bike or chopper.

Don't pay more than a C note, and build it up however you want to ride it.
    Don't call it a gooseneck.

The HK's were all steel. I don't remember any ever being aluminum. The X-1 stuff is alright, better in durability dept than exage, imho.

This color scheme was used on also the Procaliber and Supercaliber in the same era roughly. The Aluminum Supercaliber's are cool looking, but the steel HK is better than it.

I have the black version, and an earlier white one from 89-90.
Good friction shifting is getting hard to find nowadays....

    Thanks for the input everyone.
This is the best info I've been able to find:
Trek, Fisher, Klein, Lemond bike catalogs, bicycle brochures
The '91 PDF does show one bike with the Exage 500 components, the AL-1. This 16 A.E. is an odd bike, I am digging the colors though. I'm thinking of building it into a bmx influenced cruiser type thing that I can play with on the pump track.

    Thanks again everybody!
