86-87 Bianchi Campione Del Mondo restore

    Hey all,

I'm quite new here, but back in the day I was an avid BMX rider. I've had this old beyond key sitting in my garage for quite some time now I've decided I want to turn it in to a commuter/light trail bike. I have a good friend who is a very seasoned tech who said that he would help me transform it. I've got it all apart right now and I'm trying to knock all the crud off of it I don't think it's ever been cleaned!

I will try and keep updated pics Here is a shot of it a couple of days ago, it's all torn down into components right now and I am scrubbing the heck out of it

    Cool frame.

Should be a competent light trail bike when you are done.

    Good luck on the resto.

Thanks man! That's pretty much the plan. I live in Boise and there are a ton of really groomed trails in our foothills....like no roots, bumps or rocks...lots of climbing an non-technical downhill. I'm thinking this will be great for that!

I'd like to have it done for the Tour DeFat coming next month!

So...been scrubbing on this beast on and off all week!

So far I've totally gone through the cassette, frame, chain and rear wheel. I've been knocking off 30 years of grime! I totally douched the frame today and cleaned then put a couple coats of Meguiar's Liquid Gold on it to seal things all up.

I'm attaching a couple shots of the frame...don't know if you can tell a difference by the pics, buts she's shining like a diamond in a goat's butt!
