This was a dumpster find recently...actually a reject from the local bike coop, and my thought was to clean it up and sell it for a few bucks. It's definitely a Schwinn S-30. Those markings on the frame are clear. I want to know what vintage so that I can properly describe the bike. The closest I can find on Bikepedia is the 1997 S-30, which is blue/silver. The pics make this frame look a lot bluer than it appears in person. It Looks more purple like the Snowmass bike registration sticker on it.
I figure it'd have to be worth a few dollars because the bike (complete) would have sold new for around $1,000. I'm not sure the fork is any good, but I figured I'd take it apart and look anyway. The most I'd do to it is clean the surface, remove all bolts and headset, give the fork and rear shock at least a cleaning/lubing, clean surface rust off the bolts, and flip it.
I've read that this frame converts to a SS pretty well, so I suspect there might be a market for it. Should help offset the cost of a new commute bike frame.
I work in a shop and can get my hands on a box and packing materials so shipping it shouldn't be a problem.
