1997 Kona Hot - Quick Before and After

I haven't shared anything in a while, and seems like the forum could use some fresh posts. This might be on the edge of VRC, but it's nice to look at. Next to the Stars & Bars, this is one of my favorite paint jobs from Kona.

I picked this '97 Kona Hot up at a public surplus auction. It came with crappy wheels, a huffy cup holder bolted to one of the bar ends, and mishmash component group- XTR M950 rear derailleur, M900 front, XT M739 v-brakes & levers, M008 XT Rapidfire Plus shifters, Syncros post, Cook Bros. E-crank, Control Tech Stem, Onza bar ends, original Kona headset, and a Bomber Z2. Haven't opened up the BB yet, but it looks like a Shimano. Here's what it looked like after getting it home:

I then proceeded to replace the wheels with a set of M950 hubs laced up to some 517's. Some Velociraptors finished up the wheelset. The polished Onzas came off, replaced with some shorter black Onzas. And that's about it. Cleaned it, tuned it, and here's the result.

Great! The people that have Konas seem to like them a lot.

You got rid of the cup holder?!

I love Kona's of that era. I like their colour and graphics which had a sense of fun. For some reason I went with a titanium frame (Kona Hei Hei) which has no colour and graphics. Go figure.

That Kona is cool, I'd have one of those [snap] like that!

I like the paint. Tough one to match a fork with unless it is painted to match the frame or black though.

I had a 97 Ku a long time ago. It was a fun ride:

Seek: Koski Trailmaster. Breezer Series 2, or 3. Fillet brazed Ibis Custom. Cunningham Racer. Otis Guy (but not that softride model). That's all I need I don't need anything else... except... except for an old Mountain Goat bar stem combo. And that's all I need. I don't need anything else. Except.....
