    1996 WTB Phoenix

The Craigslist gods smiled on me (finally).

    1996 18" suspension corrected, 1-1/8" steerer, 140mm rear spacing

    The man.

    uncut - phew

    yay!

Just 50 newer than halaburt's pumpkin orange 26/650B (Restomod) (which is a very inspiring)

I need to cogitate on this project for awhile. So many possibilities.

Pretty sure that is too big for you but it may be good trade bait. Sizing based on when I saw you at mike's shop. Surprised you didn't say hi!

Aha! I wasn't sure if that was you..... and halaburt? My bad. Now that I know what you look like I will certainly introduce myself next time. Heck, I'm insulted that you didn't introduce yourself since you seem to have recognize me.

I think this is just a sign that we need to have a retro ride up in Marin soon.

Want to trade for an 18" ? Honestly, I was just about to send you a PM to get the ball rolling on your white 15" when this showed up on CL for a price I could NOT say no to.

I am a bit torn on the sizing. I polled a few other Phoenix owners in the 6' range and got a split between 15" and 18".

Let me just share these three photos with you. Generally the paint on this frame is in pretty rough shape. However, the original owner put some 3M foam and electrical tape on the seatstay and paradoxically the driveside chainstay is probably in the best shape.

I know there are plenty of "patina" folks around here, but after you ride it a bit and you like it, that bike is ripe for a re spray.

If we ever meet up, I'd be really interested to try your 18 and see how it rides differently...

I'm just over 6' and owned a 15" and an 18" in the past. The 15 felt a bit small, and the 18 a bit large. I found a 16.5" (these were made late in the run) and it's just right.
Each bicycle owned exponentially increases the probability that none is working correctly.

Top tubes are longer now, so the recommended rider height would be pretty different if using a 100mm stem so common today vs. a 135-150 long stem back then. I'm curious how the longer front center impacts the handling, for a given reach.

All good man, gotta strike when the iron is hot. White looks like it has a new owner already.

And yes, we're due for a Marin based vintage ride soon. I believe ShawnW said he was gonna take on coordinating this one. I'm holding him to it.
