    1989 Rock Lobster CX

Back in 89 Paul Sadoff was working with Keith Bontrager. Keith received an order from a local bike shop for 8 CX bikes. Well Keith took a year off from building CX bikes so he asked Paul if he would make them. Paul didn't have a CX bike so he used the geometry specs from Keith's CX bikes. Paul didn't have his own CX bikes until 91. Well this is one of the 8 bikes. It's un-filed fillet brazed, with a HT lug. It has a full 600 EX build. Just took it out today for it's 1st road/dirt ride. It sure rides nice.

I finally take decent pics to meet Eric's standards and they come out sideways. Hopefully GOB can help me out.

I see no picture. (is that possible?)

Sorry about the pics, but their up now.
Also, Paul got a real kick seeing this bike. He poured over the entire bike with me talking about every detail. What's really cool is that he's making me a period correct un-filed fillet brazed stem. He originally sold the batch of 8 as frame and forks only. So, the stem isn't missing, I just thought it would be a cool addition.
If your ever in Santa Cruz look him up, he's a great guy, and loves bikes.

Wow, now that I can see the pics, it's nicer than I expected. Didn't you mention something about Keith to me? Geometry...

    It is very lovely, Shawn!

Great bike Shawn! See me if you ever decide to sell!

Paint was done by Mark Bunton (aka Dr Deltron) who is still around in Monterey.

Only Girlonbike could use the phrase Lovely to describe a bike o VRC.

Sweet Shawn. A little more diversity is good. Who knows. Possibly you will even find a vintage bike outside of the state of California some day!

    Naaaaa.....
Seek: Koski Trailmaster. Breezer Series 2, or 3. Fillet brazed Ibis Custom. Cunningham Racer. Otis Guy (but not that softride model). That's all I need I don't need anything else... except... except for an old Mountain Goat bar stem combo. And that's all I need. I don't need anything else. Except.....

I used to do a bunch of sanding for Dr Deltron back when I was a wee little teen. He did some nice work. It was probably 89 or 90 back in Felton.

Wouldn't that be something if you sanded on this bike. Did you see MB initials in that one pic. The paint is in amazing condition after all these years, must be the prep work right.

That would be pretty cool. I started sanding for him in late 88/early 89 on and off for about a year. I think he paid be 15/frame or something along those lines. He was doing a
Bunch of lobsters and steelmans. Although he was always *****ing about trying to get paid for the latter. When I was working for him he was just getting started with the 3D faces, I wonder how many of those he did.

I really think I did sand that bike an you should reunite us, really I promise I did. 😜
