So in the UK, well Wales to be precise, we have some great trails and recently there was an event called the Howies Coed-y-Brenin Enduro. A 60km enduro event. 600 riders blasting round a mix of double track, singletrack and what can only be described as bog. I should mention that Coed-y-Brenin is a dedicated trail centre with loads of cycle only singletrack which is clearly marked. There's also loads of mixed use trails in the area as well.
This was a really fun event. It's the first time I've done something like this and I certainly didn't have the perfect bike for the day but you ride what you've got so I got on with it. It's a single loop course rather than laps with marshals. There's signs etc to make it easy to navigate. All in all great fun.
