Riding an "abandoned" railway in California.
Hi guys, went out to Carrizo Gorge yesterday. Rode 17 miles. The ride took us about three hours with all the sightseeing and picture taking.

Got to ride on some pretty gnarly train tunnels. Some really, really long

The Goat Canyon Trestle. 750 feet long, 200 feet high. Second biggest wooden, curved trestle in the US.

VERY cool.... I've investigated the maps and other stories of the ride.... I want to do it sometime... but in Fall when it's a little cooler?

Did you happen to get GPS tracks?

Due to various cave-ins. It's just not profitable to fix.

"For many years now this section of railroad has been abandoned because several of the tunnels had collapsed. Over the years there have been many projects to clear the tunnels and reopen the line, but funding usually ran out."

That's so cool. It's stuff like this that makes me want to live in those parts. Alas, cold Stockholm doesn't really have anything interesting, at least in the aspect of exploration. There's only so much that one can find in such an urban area.

Nevertheless, thanks for posting! :) definitely a good share

I was there recently. It was 110f out. My new DB Overdrive Expert did an awesome job. But my ass took a toll on the cheap stock seat. Otherwise the bike did great. Woke up the next morning at home and had 2 flat tires:eek: The place was amazing, saw 4 big horn sheep, everything was awesome about the place.

Ha, I had two flat tires the next morning as well. Probably little metal debris from the rails, or wood.

Would you mind pointing that ride out on Google map?

It looks real cool, and I would like to ad it to my todo list, for the next time I hit the west coast.

    Both are real.

Here's some background on the crash video.

We were on a bit of single track that bypasses one of the many training tunnels. There are some spots of extreme exposure here and there and we stopped to evaluate one of them. I decided not to try this one section. The other two riders, Miles and Eric, both tried it. Eric dabbed through the scary part and Miles did as well but lost his balance to the wrong side of the trail and went over the side.

The initial drop was about 10 feet near vertical followed by a series of rolling into and over rocks followed by more drops and air time. All total Miles when about 150 down the cliff/ravine. It was all over in a few very long seconds but it seemed like it went on forever.

Hello to you all (first post),
I've got a question out of curiosity. Where do you start riding this trail? Looking at google maps doesn't help as much. Id be starting this trail from the 8 if possible just not sure where you guys would park to start riding and/or if I start from the 8, would it be a one way in and out? I can't make it a loop can I?

    Thanks in advance gentlemen.

Copy. Got it. Did it. Loved it. I made "another" video of our run but can't exactly share it yet because I don't have 10 posts. Haha. Thanks for the site.
