    Hero 2 or 3 silver?

Which do you recommend for riding vids and general use? Costco has new 2's with wifi backpack for 199 or should I jump to the 3 silver edition? The 3's seem to still be having software issues as well as battery drain problems. Is the 2 the better choice still?

I had the 2 with wifi bacpac and the bacpac linked to my gopro app worked occasionally, but not often enough for me to ever take it with anymore.

I sold all that and got the GoPro 3 silver. Better in every way. I have had absolutely no issues and the built in wifi always works. It's smaller, lighter, and faster...

The Hero 2 is a great camera - bought one last year and still use it. Since you stated Costco has the Hero 2 w/wife backpack for $199 (Same price as a new Hero 3 White) and is $100 cheaper than a Hero 3 Silver, I might be inclined to go with the Hero 2. The extra $100 isn't worth the difference in quality in my humble opinion - you could use the extra $100 on accessories like extra batteries, a Wasabi external charger (comes with 2 batteries), or other gear. Of course, I don't use the wifi so it isn't a big issue with me.
I don't use Strava. Don't need an application to tell me I am slow because I already know.

    Hero 2 or 3 silver?

With a little searching and patience you won't need to pay $300 for the Silver 3. Got mine for $230. But if you're in a hurry that's a different story.
