GoProHD vs ContourHD - review and test

I just posted my review of both of these good units and both have their strong and weak points. There is no clear cut "winner" just a different approch to solving the same problem.

This review and comparison may help you decide if you are thinking about buying one.

Jack that's a good review. Its nice to see something substantive. There's so many terrible reviews on consumer sites regurgitating the PR's that its a relief to read your article

    One correction

"Rotatable lens - very handy!" should be in ContourHD Pros.

Obviously you need some video to compare?

Oops! Thanks for the proof read

I see you found the clip link. The next clip will be a low light test. I already know the goods and bads of both, but I want to get some good footage to show side by side.

I intentionally put my video comparison links a bit into the review, I'd like to tell a little bit about then other strengths and weaknesses of a each camera before jumping to the video Sometimes the video is not the whole story.

Yes, the whole reason I started this website was because I wanted honest information, not marketing.

I hope this helps all of us out there taking video of our favorite sports!

I like the GoPro HD. I rode for a good 2 hours and 15 min and the thing still had tons of battery left on it... Great battery life.

The only thing that annoys me about it is that on the chesty mount the darn thing will rotate on the mounting screw and it seems you can't get that darn screw tight enough to keep it from doing that...

I tightened the piss out of it and hit a big rock and lo and behold, rotate down it did!
I don't use Strava. Don't need an application to tell me I am slow because I already know.

Here is my helmet mount....actually its been updated since these pics but you get an idea of the location. The new mounting I drilled a hole in the front of the helmet and used a visor mounting bolt (both the female-mounted in the helmet from the inside and the male-holding on the camera mount) and the velcro is used initial is still there. The mount is just the headstrap with the straps removed. I could not get the camera to fit or in the correct position (it would tilt too far down) with the other mounts. Some have mounted it to the visor.

OH and the quality is 10 times better on my computer or TV directly than through Vimeo or YouTube!!!!
