New question here. GoPro 3 Black update on a MAC...help please

So I opened up my new GP3 black and it said there was an update for it.

So I followed the instructions, went to GP.com, downloaded the files, but now I'm stuck at the unzipping part. Plus I can't find my camera on my imac. It's hooked up to the comp right now, but I dont' know where it is. I suck at the mac too. I'm still learning the ropes. I was a PC guy for many years.

sorry for the real newb-like questions, but I really am a newb at this.

ok, I might be getting the hang of this. I just made a video and finished editing it in iMovie.

It really wasn't that hard. I didn't do the update though yet.

Guessing since you said you are new to mac, It's a new Mac? not a hand-me-down?

Mac's auto decompress/unzip the file,.. it'll be in your download's folder.

when you plug in the camera it should just show up on your desktop... or do you have the system setup with the "hidden" drives (do you see the main harddrive on your desktop?)
The hidden desktop stuff is the stupidest thing I've ever seen Apple do...

if the desktop is hiding your drives,...
close everything, make sure it says "finder" next to the apple icon on the left-top in the menu.....
Click on the word finder and then scroll down to "preferences"
Make sure the "general" section/button is selected in the top of that window...
click all the check boxes so everything is shown...

now the Cam should show on the desktop when you plug it in (PS the memory card needs to be inside the cam for it to get the computer to see it I believe)

I went through the same hassle. I searched on youtube and there was a way around it. Essentially, you connect the camera and then disconnect it while the java is trying to detect the camera. It then bypasses the autodection and allows you to manually enter the serial number. Once you do this, you get to download the upgrade.

thanks for all the help guys. So I got it downloaded. Now do I just click and drag it into the gopro folder that pops up on the desktop? How do I unzip it?

First, unzip the file by double clicking on it. You'll get three files into a folder. You just need to drag these onto your memory card.
If you have a card read for the memory card, it is a snap. Just insert the memory card into the reader and attached to the computer. You'll see a "no name" drive (or something like that) pop up on your desktop. Drag and drop the files onto the card.

Then put the card into the camera and turn it on.

I did it, then my camera went nuts. It wasn't turning on, then it would turn on, then the wifi would just turn on and stay on by itself....etc. So I figured I must've did something wrong with the update. So I took everything out of the memory card and reformatted it. It seems to be working fine now.

I think I'm going to try again.

When you did the update, Im pretty sure it says the camera will turn itself on and off numerous times while it updates.

This was happening to me after the update, on the trails. It was acting really weird.

This. It will sort of have a mind of its own for a while while it completes the upgrade process

was it doing all this while still plugged to the puter? or after updating and out on trail?

Yes, I upgraded it. It was kind of like the blind leading the blind. The website documentation sucked and there were no written instructions. Once I made it past the serial number trick, the rest of the upgrade went fine. I think it took around 10 minutes for the upgrade process to be complete.

I took it out on the trail with me, which was about an hour later, and noticed it was just turning on and off. Then the blue blinking wifi light just stayed on for the whole time. I ended up pulling the battery while out on the trails to turn it off.
