    What happened to the Indy?
Get out and ride even when you don't want to because ten minutes into the ride you'll be glad you did.

craigslisted it my brother. twas time. 9 yr ole 29er with old geometry. the new bikes are too good not to move over to. no way in hell i'm spending that much money on a bike again tho. new bike retails for 1/5th and rides better. vroom, vroom!!!

honestly i was waiting for when the new 2014 bikes come out in september, but then i saw this lil local series pop up and figured i might as well get me something to get dirty on in the mean time. you good?

Pre-ride was fun despite the cold rain. Love the loop although there are some nasty thorns right as you come out of the woods/single-track and ride along the power lines towards the finish. Maybe they'll hack those back before the race. My arms are all torn up from them.

I haven't been that muddy in a while, felt good! No worries on the thorns, I'm planning on heading out there this afternoon to clear some of them out.

great turnout for the 1st race of 5. i'm guessing 75 or so riders showed up. course was super fun, but a bit too much flat getting to the trails and getting to the finish made for ss hell.

nice to see so many familiar faces. great to see you tom!!!

see y'all next week. maybe 100 will show

Yeah, it was super fun yesterday. I was just cruising and did the lap in something like 35 minutes. We'll see how it is today with the rain last night (and possibly today). Who else is gonna be there?

I ate plenty of dust on that section tonight... I think I'm slow! When a SS passes me uphill, I know I have some work to do. Excellent time though, hoping they keep this kind of series up.

ugh, that flat start was dusty as fvck with another $hit show bottleneck going into the woods. did you get passed by me on the ss? or the young buck that dusted me?

another tough night in paradise. took a lil bit o time off last weeks time, but felt slower.

    next week!!!

Jeff from Gus' got a cool shot of that start. It looks like a stampede from some western movie. He posted it on their fb page if you wanna check it out.

I think the "feel slower" thing was more a result of that race was incredible fast. Everyone just absolutely took off!

ya that 1st bit to the woods is insane. but what is tough is that many of the folks that get there quick are MUCH slower once in the singletrack. and bobble on such non techy lil features. trying to pass in there is torture. I pissed one guy off pretty bad.

    ah well, that's racing!

definitely a lot of very fit riders showing up which is awesome

Great time for sure, unfortunately for me I didn't improve much over last week as the climb up Jewell Hill (the 1st climb) killed me for the rest of the race.

ah, ya that's a good one. i'm slowly improving. dropped 26 seconds from race 1 to race 2, then another 49 seconds from race 2 to race 3. singlespeed def doesn't have me getting to the 1st woods section in good shape. so many roadies fly to the singletrack only to SLOOOOOOOOW down once things get fun. sucks getting caught behind them, but that's racing. started passing in the woods making my own trail and whatnot

    fun

Been meaning to post this here but went on a long weekend and forgot about it. They didn't get my time last week, so I just told them what I saw on my bike comp when I crossed the line (27:15). If anyone was around me at the finish just confirm that this is in the ball park? I was riding a white trek mamba with a black/white Trek Portsmouth kit, if that helps at all.

well I finished in 27:14 just behind some guy on a scott hardtail. so if you almost caught a guy in EASTERN MOUNTAIN SPORTS kit on a rigid singlespeed, that'd be me and you musta been RIGHT on my tail and had a good laugh watching me spin my brains out on that long flat SS hell of a finish straight

Yeah, I was behind you but not that close. I didn't get a good view of my speed because I was trying to hold off someone trying to pass me so sounds like I was a tad slower than that.

i'm finding that a 32-18 is a bit too spinny, but I just started riding again like a week and a half before the series started so im torturing my way back into shape. If I was in decent riding shape i'd be running a 34-18 on my 29er. used to race that gearing a whole lot. pretty fast even compared with gearies when you can turn it over through hill/dale. altho with a 34-18, slower singletrack riders that blew by you in the flats with gears will make it horrible for you to turn that gear over in the punchy areas while you try to pass. it's a fine line man

Oh man, that was no bueno. I had some pretty awesome dirt tan lines from that. I'm kinda sad to see this come to an end. But the BBQ will be fun and I'm excited to ride in the fall in comfortable temperatures.

I'd definitely say this was a success and they should keep it going!

mmmm, cool temps. mtb season will be here soon enough. huge success! excited to see what they come up with for next summer. maybe run them for 8-10 weeks with more laps/miles per race, staggered starts, and less long flat stretches/more climbing.

tomorrow is the final race of the 5 race series. been a fun month with perfect weather. really looking forward to the bbq following the race and can't wait to see what's up for next summer. could be big!

planning on shedding a few (or more) pounds off of the 28lb rigid steel singlespeed for next season. makes for a good "training" bike tho

    see you there folks!!!

It has been great. Looks like the rain will keep the dust down a bit and make things a nice real muddy New England mtb race. I've been stuck at 27 minutes this whole time. I'm gonna haul butt to try and get that 26:xx! Good luck everyone!

rain? what rain? no rain in York. we can only hope. ya I been in the 27's the past 2 races. use those gears to yer advantage kevin. get to/through that bottle neck as fast as you can to get you to the 26's. getting stuck behind the slower singletrack riders last week had me going what felt like 50-60% effort for that whole 1st section. slow. I think i'll line up more up front instead of way back this time. then weavezig-zag/flail and block my way to the woods. should be a good way to pi$$ off about 50 of my closest friends

know i'll be somewhere behind you that'll definitely push you to 26's lol!

    see you there!

Thanks! Coulda gone a little faster if I didn't hit the tree. I swear it jumped outta nowhere! Also busted up my front derailluer. But I'm happy with it. Next year will be huge!

I'll have to see if I can make No Brakes happen. Got other things going on that weekend for the girlfriend but we'll have to ride sometime! Hopefully the surf turns up for you this weekend!

heh, you hit a tree?! you didn't tell me that! I coulda gone a lil faster if I had no one in front of me through that damn 1st section after entering the woods in 30th something place. nice to see the gearies using what they got tho. i'm calling that section, "group ride" LOL!!! too much fun

I saw ooctrl out there on my pre-ride, whattup bro?!

surf turned on a bit last night and I surfed from 530-815 this am. so nice paddling out in the dark and catching the sunrise. c'mon tropics!

Yup, I was the one out there messing up everyone's warm up ride riding everything in the opposite direction. I meant to be done with my ride before the racers showed, but I had a flat last night and spent a few minutes looking for the nut for my presta valve that I dropped on the earth. It was a great night to ride last night, though, with the lower humidity and cooler temps. How you doing, rog? Get under 27 min yet?

nope, stuck in the 27's. 1st 2 races in the 28's. 1:15 difference from my slowest time to my fastest. mr consistency.........one speed baby. would help some if i didn't start riding just a coupla weeks before starting a weekly race series. surfing almost every day year round doesn't hurt tho

nut for presta valve? pffft. those things are useless. extra weight!
