Sawyer River Trail, NH - Ridable on a cross bike or Not?

A group of us are planning a trip in the Kancamagus highway area in a few weeks and would like to do a mix of road an trail riding to avoid too much traffic. One possible basic loop would be Sawyer River trail, RT-302, Bear Notch then back up the Kanc to the Sawyer River trailhead.

Is anybody familiar with this trail? Is it ridable on a crossbike for reasonably experienced bikers? The occasional carry is fine. A mile of carrying isn't.

Yes, should be no problem. It's an old logging RR grade and is relatively flat.

Cool, thanks! I was thinking that it would be but was worried about mud and technical stuff. Worst case we turn back and do the loop on the road.
