Questions about the Green Mountain National Forest

I'm new to the Rutland area, so I don't really know much about the state of things in the national forest. I've done a fair amount of looking online and haven't found anything on the topic, so I wanted to know if riding the forest service trails is an issue? I know the service roads are in, but by linking the service trails and roads the whole forest seems like it could be connected.

I've never researched it, but know that many of the trail heads have good signage telling what type of access is allowed.

Only a few designated trails are in play for MTBs. They are considered 'mechanical conveyance' and thus are treated the same as ATVs, motorcycles, etc. Only multiple use trails (not just hiking/skiing/horse) can be ridden. Here's the USFS link - Green Mountain National Forest - Horse and Bike Trails - Oct 2008

There is a ton of legal riding in the GMNF:
    Hayes Brook Trial in Pittsfield
    Contest Trail in Pittsfield
    Caryl Brook in Pittsfield
    Chittenden Resevoir loop in Chittenden
Moosalamoo - Oak Ridge and CHandler Ridge
    to name a few

Green Mountain Trails, Mountain Bike Trails VT > Home

Rode there 3 weeks ago, great place, not technical, just flowy. Lots of switchbacks to climb.
Watch out for Green Trail and Fusters; the blackberry bushes ripped our legs and arms to shreds!

    Green Mountain Trails

GMT are not on National forest...though they are great. There is some tech stuff there, Labyrinth is amazing. There is a bunch of tech stuff coming soon, ledge, rock spines, great terrain.

Fusters and Green trail have been given one of their several times a year haircuts!

The trails I mentioned in my post above are all on National Forest the opposite side of Route 100 from Green Mountain trails and have some singletrack and tons of remote hilly VT double track.

Thanks for clarifying and for the haircut.
