I did the first one in 2011...it was great...I wanted to do it again, but I did the Green Mountain Enduro the weekend prior and couldn't make this one happen. Based on various reports from friends who have been involved in the East Coast Enduro scene for some time said it was the best iteration of Highland yet, and one of the best all year (on the EC).
I did it this year, it was my first race I have ever done. I entered the 30-39 amateur class and placed 23rd out of 43 riders. I can't compare it to any other races since it was my first, but It was challenging for sure. I had fun and plan on doing a couple next year.
I crashed out on the 3rd stage at the beginning of the Paddy Glade. AC separation and a huge ol' hole in my leg. It was a fun race and the Concord ER staff was quite nice.
for sure.. heal quick! I too did the 30-39 category an ended up 14th.. the 30-39 was by far the most competitive. Similar times to mine were getting 6-7th place in the other categories.. some fast dudes out there for sure. stages 1 an 2 were awesome, 3 was probably my favorite, as you were on the hairy edge the whole time but it was fun.. the 4th stage on eastern hemlock just sucked.. it was a super fun race and I will be tryin to hit all of them next year
Nice work on getting 14th! I think stage 3 was my favorite as well, a lot of the fresh cut trail was pretty slick in spots. I had a big over the bars crash in stage two, but I got lucky and didn't even get a scratch.
Yeah 30-39 mens amateur class is always crowded with a lot of fast guys. I've got 8 more years 'til I'm in the 40+ class...so I guess I need to get faster!
A lot of the top riders would have done pretty well in the Pro class.
Sandbaggers! J/K!
I remember the first year, the 1st and 3rd stages had glade type sections, where it was taped out wide and you picked your own line through the trees...some lines would lead to dead ends (i.e. you would have to climb back up to get back to the trail). Anything like that this years? It was kinda cool random element. Also the second stage was super pedally over fresh cut XC trail....soooo slow....it was ok, and at least it was short.
