MTBVT.com Announces Fatbike event at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, VT

    "Überwintern"

"Fat-bike group ride in Vermont's corner of Austria, Lederhosen optional"

Mountain Bike Vermont is at it again after spending the last few weeks playing in snow on skis and boards, it's time to fuel our bike starved souls and play on two wheels!

MTBVT has partnered with the Trapp Family Lodge to offer a day of fat-tired bike revelry on several of their world class XC ski trails. On February 23rd, 2013 we will be gathering at the Deli Bakery on top of Trapp Hill early in the day to lead a charge against Old Man Winter. Join us for group rides, bakery treats, brauts, and brews.

"Our goal is to elevate the status of fatbiking in Vermont's green mountains, and of course to have a ton of fun" says event co-organizer Jon Severinghaus of MTBVT. "Überwintern will be the Trapp Family Lodge's first introduction to the fat-bike phenomenon. " says MTBVT co-founder Ryan Thibault.

Since this winter has already been both snowy and glorious, as well as warm and wet, we've got you covered in case of more predictably unpredictable weather. If winter fizzles and it's a “late February melt fat-tired monster trucking dirt road ride” or a “the megastorm deep-freeze of 2013, where we pedal briefly and keep warm in the Trapps Brewery with hearty Austrian ales" Überwintern is sure to be a blast. Pump up those tires and we'll see you on the corduroy!

Stay in the loop at the event Facebook page and at MTBVT.com

Yup, we won't have access to the whole network as to minimize any potential for user conflict during peak XC ski season, but we will have free reign of the trails on the East Side of Trapp Hill Rd.

    Sure to be a blast!

Hey fatbikers, if you're coming please take a moment to register here: Uberwintern (dot) eventbrite (dot) com

It's free, but we'd like to get a good idea of numbers, and will be able to more easily keep you in the loop.

*The $10 trail pass will be on sale at the event

Hopefully it will be a decent day (weather wise). Be very careful if you venture out tonight.

Quick update on snow conditions in the area:

The Stowe area got a pretty decent amount of snow, 10in+ in most areas even low elevation, and the trails at Trapps should be in great shape come Uberwintern!

So go get some lederhosen fit, cause it's gonna be a blast!

    Hey Fatbikers,

The weather is shaping up nicely for this weekend's event. We did some route scouting today and the trails are going to be super fun. Trapps has generously given us free reign of all trails on the Eastern side of Trapp Hill Rd. We will have maps available with recommended loops sketched out for ya at the event. The snowshoe trails are packed and ready to rip, and the groomers are going to be fast 'n furious starting right from the Delibakery/Brewery on Trapp Hill Rd.

The $10 trail pass will be on sale at the Delibakery/Brewery which will serve as the event's homebase. Ample parking is available here, and further up Trapp Hill Road if needed. We'll have a firepit going outside, and delicious Trapp Lager flowing inside. A few demo bikes will be on hand, so get there early if you want to check one out.

As a reminder, The Trapp Family Lodge has opened up a portion of their trails to purpose-built fatbikes/snowbikes ONLY. We like to include everybody in our shenanigans, so if you snowbike frequently on something else, make sure to check out WinterBike at the Kingdom Trails in early March.

Hit us up with any questions, and we'll see you Saturday!
