I was able to ride Millstone on Saturday with some local friends. Despite it raining further north, Millstone was dry until we finished at close to 6:00. We had an awesome day, rode most of the goods, including the new Vortex trail off the top of Harrington heights. Kudos to the trailbuilders, they hit it out of the park with this one! Lots of skinnies linking boulder ridges, tight turns, lots of challenge. It was also cool to introduce a couple of buddies to the place. The looks on their faces after Screaming Demon was pure joy (with a little fear).
Vortex gets my vote for the most smiles per mile(yes I realize the trail is not even that long). What a wonderfully, fun, challenging, technical, fantastic thrill it is. I think we rode it 3 or 4 times.
My only complaint is it is too short. We need more Vortex!
What was the foliage/trail situation like? A few of us are looking to head up there this weekend, about a 3 hour drive. Hoping maybe a few trails happened upon a leaf blower?
Foliage is basically gone, with a few dry beech leaves hanging on like they always do. Trails have been fantastic lately though (in Stowe at least). You get to hear the rustle of the leaves behind you as you whoosh around corners. Whee!
The Newer Millstone stuff is some of the most fun and challenging trail you can put your tires on. I see alot of up-keep down the road for all the wood, but he sine the crew has some actual pro carpenters on it they will probably stay on it. Keep up the good work ya damn woodchucks!
Tomorrow, Friday 11/15 is your last chance for Millstone MTB'g this season. If you don't have a season pass, and nobody's at the trail center, drop them $10 to buy some nails.
^^ That is Littlejohn Rd you can see in the background, and that is a little part of Twister. If you park at Littlejohn and turn left onto the road, the trail will be on the right in less than 30 seconds. The rock has been there a long time, the ramps are new!
