Ascutney Trails close for hunting November 1st

Ascutney Trails close for hunting November 1st except for the hiking trails to the summit (Brownsville, Windsor, Weathersfield, Futures and Bicentennial Trails.) We reopen December 16th, for hiking, biking (fat tires?), snowshoeing and XC skiing.

NOTE: earlier posts incorrectly stated closing day as Nov 9th - It is the 1st.

    Jim,

With your local shut down, now might be the time to come visit us in Charlemont. Only about an hour south west, we're having our Whole Enchilada event on Saturday the 9th, love to see a nice STAB representation.

Have ridden these trails many times and they are as good as everyone says. Are there any plans to open the ski area back up? Such a shame it closed in the first place.

An auction tomorrow will clear up, once and for all, the three+ years of legal wrangling over who actually owns the Ascutney ski area. It is unlikely to result in a ski area buyer tomorrow, but it will free up the owner to negotiate a deal. There have been rumors that some kind of Magic or Mad River arrangements are in the works, but nothing concrete.

So, it just means that hope is not dead.

It's a shame when trails close for hunting before hunting season. Perry Hill is the same way, Nov 1 it's closed. This year with a "late" Thanksgiving, youth deer weekend isn't until Nov 9, and rifle season isn't until Nov 16. Bowhunters and muzzleloaders are at home again until Dec 7 too. Just a suggestion to the great folks that negotiate these things (thank you!) that a season-dependent date might make more sense than Nov 1.
