That's a lame excuse. The race isn't very long. You can study your ass off on Sunday.

I am racing in the Novice, 50+ age group. I have been a roadie for years and wanted to broaden my horizons a bit...Try this mountain biking thing, and maybe do some endurance rides as the season goes on

A lot of roadies were at last year's race. There is plenty of double track to take advantage of your power. The single track is nice and flowy, but does require a little bit of skill. Don't get discouraged if your first race doesn't go as planned. We brought some novices down (from Maine) with us last year, and they had a blast. I'll be is the sport senior (30-39) class, and probably the only ss since there is a separate ss class (wanted the earlier start time.)

Well, now I must decide if I feel like racing 24 or 16 miles.

I would normally choose a distance longer than 8 miles, but thought that for my first MTB race, I would be prudent to take advantage of the novice category, and feel my way through the process. I can't believe I just used the words "I" and "prudent" in the same sentence

It's an early season race so 16 miles is fine for me. I have SS-A-P two weeks before this and that is 25+. That is more than enough for me. Half way through I always find myself asking why I put myself through this every year.

True. Hopefully it won't be too bad. Perhaps a lot of the 'roadies' will stay home.

Meh. Better if they show. Great to draft behind. Just make sure to **** in front of them before the last few seconds of singletrack. Warren, you racing expert?

yep. was on the fence....and then sport was sold out so first expert race for me.

should be a pretty good tread beat in after 300 racers lap it twice in the early session.

You are no sport rider anyway. Not from what I saw in those road rides. Willowdale gets ridden hahd all the time. It drains support well.
