Where did you get the information to know what you were ordering? A phone call, I'm guessing? Or was the name enough?

yep, just a quick phone call and conversation with teresa was enough to push me over the edge, a couple of my questions were shouted in Sherwoods direction and i felt comfortable enough with the answers to proceed. The timing was perfect as i was looking for a bike to build for a couple endurance races...Butte 100 and a 12 hour race in this case. Last year i did it on a Turner 5 Spot, the year before on a Flux, and before that a Titus Carbon FTM, and a Flux again......so in a nutshell, all of this is part experiment to see how the bikes we sell actually ride.

NWMTB, Any other details that you would like to share? Will the toptube be the less curvy variety like the Zeus, or more like the curvy El Rey variety?

sounds like i have a photo of my Alpino being sent my way, maybe today. The bikes are very near shipment and waiting for some of the new external cable guides to come back from anodise. Teresa thinks the shipment of Alpinos may be ready towards the end of next week.

    retail price is $2195

    toptube will be like zues

offered in two stock colors...carbon black and sky white, and as usual you can have frames painted in just about any custom color or cofiguration of colors.

    12 X 142 or 135 rear axle

    getting excited !

Looks like it has the dolphin hump. Knowing Sherwood there is some functional reason for the curved top tube design (is there more than one type?) but I don't know what it is. I'm not a big fan of the esthetics of that but I'm sure it will ride pretty good.

I'm short legged and heard rumors that a low standover top tube option will be offered. I called Ventana and talked the man himself who told me to look at the Ventana facebook page and look at the black ciclone for an example of the lower top tube; to me it's greatly elongated "S" shape looks much better than either of the ones mentioned above.

Wasn't thrilled about internal routing on my hydro brake line when I had to set it up, but now I kind of like it.

I just wish they would ditch the PF30 BB shell and go back to threaded.

He did the external cable routing because the downtube is a smaller diameter and weight reduction..........this is what I was told. I was concerned with external routing but after talking with HQ, it should be just fine

So external cables are an "Alpino exclusive"? Or will we see them popping up on other models in the future?

I plan to give CK a try. The other two PF30 I have tried do the job but are not running all that smoothly after very few miles. I live in a fairly dry area and BB wear is usually a non-issue.

Salt has 'em too. Appears to be more where on the weight scale the frame falls on.

Makes sense. At least if the Ventanas have tubing for routing the cables throught the frame. They probably weigh a few grams. It usually doesn't take much weight to upset the XC crowd.

i did receive that picture from teresa and then politely requested for the rear to be painted to match the front triangle, and 12 X 142 drop outs to be installed. Ventana builds and paints to order.....love these guys !

i'll share a pic when the frame gets to the barn...should be soon.

This is now my top prospect for "next bike." Really anxious to see photos and geometry numbers.

I just looked at what I wrote and it probably sounds weird. How can it be my top prospect when I hardly know anything about it? Well, I've had it in my head since last year that a 650b bike with 5" travel would be my ideal do-it-all bike. Add my desire for US manufacturing and preference to buy a frame only, and the list gets real small, real quick!

I don't think there is a short travel purpose built 650B on the market yet. If you want the geometry numbers just call Ventana HQ......numbers have been available for a few months.

I'd like to know if these can be made without the PF30? Everyone seems excited about this. Can I ask an innocent question? Is the suspension design still totally relevant?

Very relevant! Like Stripes said, every suspension design has its strong points. I rode a carbon nomad for 2 years and now own a HD 160 and a 2012 ciclon. To me the ciclon has better traction doing technical loose climbs, even though it has less travel. The rear staying active under pedal power gives it tractor like traction. The HD and the nomad both stiffen to much for me and made those same climbs harder. Both the carbon nomad and hd 160 feel close to hardtail stiff on climbs where the ciclon does bob a little, but it doesnt feel like it is any less efficent. At the end of a long ride I usually always feel less tired on my Ciclon vs the HD. I don't know how to explain it but ventanas suspension feel has something special! This is coming from a guy that has had many bikes and chages bikes yearly, I have always had a ventana for many years where other bikes have come and gone.

The site manager decided he didn't need any engineers so he laid off the entire manufacturing engineering department. Then add the stupidity of the EDD...........frame is now deemed a luxury thus has to go. I was hoping to get a job pretty fast so I could keep the frame but it looks like I will take a major hair cut.
