    Tubing question

What's the difference in the type of tubing that Ventana is using now vs. the type that Sherwood was using a few years ago? I know the current type is stronger, but beyond that, I'm not really getting it.

AFAIK the tubing itself is not different.... it's the thickness used...he's now using straight gauge tubing stock on some models (like DT on the Ciclon) and before they were butted (thinner at places where less strength was required)

Straight gauge doesn't necessarily make a stronger bike than butted tubes. Butting is all about removing weight from where it's not needed.

I assume the new Ciclon down tube is straight gauge to withstand more bending moment from longer forks.

Butted tubes are also more prone to dings than straight gauge tubes.

From what I remember from a previous thread....Sherwood said the reason for the change to straight gauge was because he was sick of seeing his frames with dented downtubes...it had nothing to do with the longer forks.

    Makes sense. Occam's Razor, eh?
